Digging tools

Hi... I just saw something so obvious that my jaw fell open. I was watching a Treasure show where they were metal detecting for gold in Alaska. Now, when I go out I'll sometimes pick a hand full of dirt and wave it over the loop looking for the target. Yes, hand full of dirt, rusty nails broken glass and everything else. Imagine my awe when this chick did the same thing using a large plastic garden spoon. I'm posting this 'cause I figure some body out there is a slow learner like me :) Now, where is the closest nursery..........

Here's hoping for good hunting sites and big sun spots!

Hey, I just got back from the local "Treasure" shop. They had plastic digging tools! So, I bought a trowel by Fiskars. I've been away from detecting for awhile (my favorite mags were Long John Lathums, True Treasure and Treasure Found.....out of Conroe Texas), so this plastic digging stuff was "new hat" for me. Any users out there? Do they hold up Ok? Thanks, Ron.

Silversmith, the plastic digging trowel would not hold up in my area of the country, the ground is too hard especailly in July and August! (the exception would be the sandy beach!).............We use the normal digging tools.........steel or heavy duty aluminum! ................... If you are concerned with handling sharp objects like glass and nails.......................I would recommend using at least one leather glove for your digging hand!!...........Also get one that form fits to your hand! Personally I do not touch the soil until the target is exposed!.............The soil can be separated by your digging tool or knife! I have been cut badly in the past usually on old glass! But also have dug up a lot of sharp metal objects like power saw blades and knives with the blade open!!..............HH..............Joe
