">Digging small iron things

steve in so la

Well-known member
With my Fisher 1266 I dig a lot of little iron wires this size. They sound just like a coin, or a gold/silver ring. I must have dug 2 doz or more yesterday. I do believe that if I pass them up by not digging or setting my disc higher to avoid them, then I will miss some of the good jewelry. However, when I go to CW & relic places I use my Shadow X2 and dont get these small items. I would be digging them all day if I did. Steve in so az

I'll have to take some pictures of the small things I dig at the beach. I can't tell you how many times I've heard a target and could not see it. I've had to take the X-1 pinpointer and check... and even though I'd pinpointed the target, I still couldn't see it. I had to slowly move the sand away and check almost grain by grain. Many times it's small pieces of slag; I have no idea where they come from but they sure sound REAL good :) Too good to pass up. But last summer (on the same day actually) I found two stud earrings with very little metal and a size 3 10K kids ring. The one stud had about a 1 caret CZ in it that almost gave me the big one  Another guy at the beach walked right over them (saw his footprints) Gotta dig the the good sounds and the iffys :)

The Explorer sometimes can pick up a small rusty nail, or screw thatsounds like a coin, but not gold. My two cannon balls sounded like a big hunk of silver! :)
