Digging hidden cache ?

Joel-Winnipeg

New member
Was talking to man today about caches or where about of some.
He said that the old homestead that was in there family was once owned by a old tightwad who hid his money in the farmyard.
This was verified in a sense by some one accidentally finding some old silver coins while digging in the garden.
The time frame is the late 1890,s
Will go and hunt that yard soon with three detectors out of my stables.
I plan to show two gentlemen how to use an ACE 250 and BH 3300.
They have never hunted before should be interesting and the site has never seen detectors .
One that was raised there said there's lots of iron and trash there.
I can discriminate lots of the iron with those two machines.
Here's my question ?
I'll be running the MXT that I got this spring and have over 100 hours on it now and using the standard coil.
I usually have it on the Coin & jewelry mode and found silver and gold rings with it. plus lots of clad
Should I stay with this mode (disc at just below nickel ) or go into the relic mode with trigger forward which I've never tried.
The old silver dollar coins found were in the 1890 to1900.
I'm suspecting that likely only sliver hidden on the site !
Will do this hunt within the next two weeks as the site is 250 miles from here.

Thanks for your input and if anything comes of it I will post the finds !

Joel, if it was me I would go with what works. C&J has worked in the past for you, and you are familiar with that program. If you are looking for larger targets like silver dollars, I'll bet they would sound off at a foot or more.

Since you will be so far from home, you will probably have limited time there. Do you really want to waste any of it learning a new program?

Now if you were to bury your hard earned money, would you bury it a coin here and a coin there? Or would you put a decent sum together for ease of access? Look for places within sight of the house or inside some of the outbuildings, floor and rafters. But if the place is that old the buildings are probably gone by now. No noisy neighbor or passing traveler would think twice about someone digging in their garden. Still I would bet the whole treasure would be split into several smaller stashes.

I wish you the best. Keep us posted. Dave

Dave has very good info. Also if there's a jar, can, box etc. of silver, you could get an overload signal. DIG! Keep the program you're use to. Good luck and we'll keep our fingers crossed for you. HH to all, Nancy

Take your time and DIG it ALL.

GOOD LUCK & HH
