Digging Deep Targets in Sand

Makes it really hard work but with this you don't have to get down on your knees. I made this shovel out of pvc. pipe with a wooden handle inside the pvc, which makes it very strong. it becomes a "horizontal shovel" with a open end so you can lift it out and put a pile along side the hole then use the small scoop to find the target. The small scoop just clips on to the large scoops handle. The end of the small scoop is a grate out of pvc, storm water drain.

Looks really light, Pin. Good job on the custom fab and I bet it was cheap to build. Ron

Of course an alternative is a floral shovel which is a small version of a regular shovel..Gives you a 8 inch bite with one try and you can always drill a hole thru the top for a shoelace and drag it behind you to let you know where you have been.About 10 to 20 bucks at a hardware store depending on the brand...Certainly won't work in the water but in the sand plunge it into the and with your foot and turn it over. Really works and the long handle gives you fulcrum for easy digging...Many East coast hunters use this method...and works well ...Sand acts as a sharpening agent and seems to always stay sharp.

I've been kicking around the idea of one of these for specific situations for a couple of years. OK, so it takes me a while to make up my mind. About $60USD.
