Diggin in VA buttons

Bill Ladd

New member
Here are a few of the buttons we came up with the first day.....with mostly CSA bullets (we just kept pounding the one spot all day). We need to hopefully find another hot spot today. A bad thing is some dudes walk all over & then at the end of the day have like 2 bullets. We hear of a guy who's into a trash pit pulling out 18 canteens, bottles, and 2 complete bugles!! :surprised:
These are 2 Rhode Island Coat buttons & we also heard a RI. ID tag was dug.....[attachment 22198 DIV6.jpg]

this really is the worst soil we've ever seen...folks have been running disc mode & finding nothing. It's all metal & dig it all. We did pretty good today....lots more buttons & bullets, tools, etc. Tony got a NY coat button & me at the end of the day scored a cool NC. coat :surprised: We hunted w. Brad today & again all had a ball.....too worn down to post pics...we gutta pack, make displays, & get ready for our last day. I'll have my camera tommorrow. We saw a sweet Georgia plate dug in the adjoining field....

Hey, good work Bill!
I am campin in VA now myself. Down in the Richmond/Petersburg area.
I was using the CS and found A Maryland button, super eagle coat, eagle I vest, an asortment of eagle cuffs, flat button, minies, various pistol bullets, percussion caps, rivets, triangle pack ring, etc etc. My buddies have also dug a Maryland coat, many other buttons, and a ram rod, frags etc. I have 3 more days to go.

Bill were you using a CS ?

The CS does VERY well here. I got the pack ring at 14" with solid ID. I had a solid ID on a flat piece of brass at over 20" Photos later.

Looks like yur Gittin Ur Dunn Bill!

Post a pic of that North Carolina button tomorrow. You better make a beeline for that spot first thing tomorrow.

in California while you guys are getting the good stuff:(
Heard the CS was kicking butt yesterday.Congrats on some great finds.Had a great time detecting with Frank yesterday, weather permitting we hope to get out next sunday, lol!!!

I bet they wish they could get that kind of depth at Brandy Station. Soil in Richmond is very good.

Whats the MD look like John? Can you post it?

Here is a small picture of one I dug a few years back in Fredericksburg. Measured 15 inches deep with the 1266X with 8 inch coil. In very good sandy soil.

of the rings. Not the best pic but it will do_One is a beat up 10k,one a nice sterling with a stone and some junkers. As busy as Frank has been Im glad we got out too:))

& when we gut there about 10 other dudes were already there!
The term "bottom feeding" is a real thing ;) Some guys are like vultures & we had to "hide" our emotions when ya gut a goodie or 15 fellas would be next to ya before ya knew it :D
But don't get me wrong this was an AWESOME hunt!! We were just joking around about it.....we did alotta joking the entire time in fact.
Great fellowship too! ;)

Brandy Station soil is horrible & I liked manual balancing/bobbing....but Tony had the C$ hummin' too.....

Which coil did you use??

Bob (without his lower rod and large coil) :ranting:

Just kidding about the being upset Bill, I know you wanted to get on the road. I dont use it very often.
