Diggin Germany - Can You Dig It? Vol 1

Hey guys, Guess I got too much time on my hands and I'm just enjoying this V3i a bit too much. I've been searching for a video solution for the V3i for a while and finally found it. For a while my idea has been to able to video the screen and some of the coil/ground so as to be a bit of a learning tool but to make it enjoyable to watch also. Re-watching my videos has really helped me to see things differently, be more conscious of and improve my technique. I'm still working on everything as this is brand new for me. Any suggestions you have would be appreciated as hopefully this benefits us all. This is part 1 of 2. I'll get part two up tomorrow. They are each about 12 and a 1/2 minutes long. I dropped the resolution to 480 but it still looks great - it just takes too long to upload the 720 content when it's long. The glare is not too much of an issue I think. Anyway...

Here is my You Tube description:

This is the first part of a two part dig and includes 6 targets. My intention is for it is to be somewhat educational as I am not saying what the target is (no editing - all videos spliced in order of hunt). In other words you get to hear the targets and see the screen before I dig. It is a good chance for new, potential and experienced V3i users to judge the sounds and the spectragraph/polar plot analysis/pinpoint - I will do the same - great study tool. I'm also running threshold so you can listen (and see the negative VDI's) for the sound to dropout.

See if you can guess which digs are what targets. There is one scene with what I thought was large iron and didn't dig, just to give newbies a tip. You can hold the coil a foot off the ground and still get a beep (can't see that that well in the video though). The following were recovered, not in the correct order: Pulltab, aluminum staple, 1924 coin, small junk, nazi pin. You will also get to hear me talk some bad German to a visitor (and never see the small junk) as well as sporadic commentary. Look for part two...

My settings range:
Rx 8-12, Disc 90-95, AM 75, Filter 5 or 7.5 (Normally I run the filter at 5 but after a rain 7.5 quiets things down with all the wet iron. The salt setting also helps. Note - it rained all day yesterday), Correlate w/ 35 span, Recovery Delay 42, Autotrack on.

I dug more targets and can say that 30% of my targets were keepers and that could be 50% if I wasn't just having so much fun guessing what it was that I was hearing. Still learning the machine...

ps - I'm trying to make these somewhat educational so any feedback (like on camera angles, volume, etc.) is appreciated!

Thought it was great. I do not really like the videos that show a dug hole with a target laying in the dirt and then a story. I like the ones like this that show the target ID, the pinpoint and the dig. Just like you were doing. Having comments is good too. Keep making them just like this......;o)

What is the name brand of the camera holder your are using. I looked on ebay and did not see one like yours. If I had a name brand or manufacturer I may be able to find on in the USA. Thanks.

Thanks for the video, looking forward to #2.

Do you think this is the same thing or close to it?

Sounds like a few targets but also sounds like you RD is a bit slower then mine. I have mine set as fast as my omega and my g2 but it does not break up very solid hits.

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm uploading part II now. 6 more targets w/ 3 good ones. I figure I got to mix the bad with the good...

Bill - This is the camera: "Kodak PlaySport (Zx5) HD Waterproof Pocket Video Camera". Do an Amazon search. As I said in my other thread the battery is not removable but gets a good 2 hours of use (I used it around 1 hour and the batter said full for this last hunt so maybe it gets more). Also and more importantly the auto zoom is macro - you need this for filming the screen well and it's the only camcorder I know in this price range that has that.

edit - That arm is the same as mine but not the clamp. My clamp is better - more adjustable to get out of the way. See my other thread on video solution and I link directly to it.

LowBoy - You are right. I was running recovery delay at 30 for a while and even 20 in my Deus emulation program. I came back to 42 for a fuller sound. I might start to use 30 ish again as the iron is just so thick. But I thought of Cybersage and what he said about correlate pulling good targets out of iron and thought to go a bit slower. I don't think the target breakup in the video was due to my RD but rather the iron as the ground is full of it? I'm essentially hunting in an old war zone, really.

Again, any comments you guys have on my video as well as TECHNIQUE are appreciated. I got some great comments before and have changed my style (and got better results) because of them!

This is the second part of a two part dig and includes 6 targets.

See if you can guess which digs are what targets. The following were recovered, not in the correct order: Small Junk, Nazi coin, Small junk 2, Small old lock, 2 small buttons.
