"Diggers"

The other night I had the unpleasant experience of watching the National Geo Channel show "Diggers" for the first, and last time. If someone wanted to demonize and make fun of the hobby of metal detecting, they couldn't do a better job than they've done with this clown show. These two juvenile bozos make metal detectorists look like raving fools. Metal detecting is already under concerted attack by numerous bureaucratic agencies in this country as well as around the world. It strikes me as suspicious that of all the level headed, intelligent and knowledgable metal detecting people out there, they picked these two caterwauling, tumbling idiots. It smacks of a deliberate assault on this worthwhile activity by the mainstream media. Just my thoughts.

Well said. I watched once. I will never watch any of those shows again. I cringe whenever I hear or read someone using a catchphrase from that abomination of a show

Yes them two on the show are a bit cheezy. But at least they aren't like the far fetched show like dig wars ,and that boom baby savage diggers show ,where all they care about is how much they can get for their finds. And for insane non reality prices...at least the show diggers mostly returns all finds to land owners or donate to local museums. Maby that's why dig wars and savage diggers are not on the air anymore ...come on. We all get excited when we flip a plug and there is that shiny silver coin in the hole...we mite not do cartwheels. Or prance around like 10 year olds ,but its tv...the only people damaging our hobby are the people who hunt where their not suppose to ,and not properly replacing their plugs....bit even the best of us when its dry and had no rain. When we cut a plug it will turn brown....yes these shows are for entertainment.

Agree completely. None of these shows are helping any of our causes.

We feel the disgust at their antics but i watch to see where they go and what they find

I have learned a few things but we do roll our eyes when the flips and stupid acts view

I liked Dig Wars it was fun seeing Chicago Ron and legit Detectorists as for Savage..glad that is done

Its just a show, and it's not full of cursing and drama like most of these stupid reality shows. It has to be exciting and over the top. No offense, but 95% of people would not care to watch a show of the way you probably detect. It is too boring. It is all about the excitement of interesting finds, to keep viewers attention. It is actually a quite popular show. It is EXTREMELY better than the american diggers show, and dig wars was over dramatic and immature with the way they treated each other. Diggers at least gives realistic value of the finds, so people aren't going out thinking they can be a millionaire overnight. They might go over the top some, but at least they aren't cursing and being disrespectful. Every find is handed over, and they make a point to acknowledge respect when it comes to metal detecting.

I personally like watching "Diggers". I wish the show was longer and showed more of their finds per location and how they work with the Archaeologist to document their finds. I think that would be something we all could learn from. I do agree that their antics are a bit childish. However, as was stated earlier, there has to be some form of excitement to keep peoples attention, especially the kids. The "Diggers" are all about getting permission, finding and preserving history, and leaving no trace. I respect them for that. When I hear kids playing out in the yard and imitating them it makes me think that they (Diggers) are being good roll models. It is a good clean show (with no Sex, Drugs, and violence) that I don't mind my kids watching. So, why bash two guys who are really trying to do things the right way?

I agree....I watch the show nearly every week, and as others have stated, I don't care for the goofy antics, but I do enjoy seeing their finds and the locations that they are privileged to hunt. I would almost bet that the producers have more to do with the antics, slang, etc, than the Diggers themselves.
I often wonder what a CTX would do on some of those sites as opposed to an AT Pro.:detecting:

Considering that Garrett is probably a sponsor of the show I'm sure the CTX could not do any better whatsoever than the AT Pro..

We don't need good, or bad detecting shows on network television, we just need none at all

I just don't get why producers make folks act foolish. But if they get paid that may be the reason to act a fool even though I know they are good guys.

They are great guys and I don't blame them for jump around! If I find 1700's coin and I might jump around! They don't keep most what they find and give to museum! Better than boom baby and make money!

I agree Tex, they are actors acting ................ I didn't say they were GOOD actors...........

All of these "reality" shows are the furthest thing from reality, the producers have to enhance reality to make it watchable and saleable. You really can't blame the guys though, they are making a living metal detecting. How many of us would like to do that?

I don't got out of my way to watch it but when I run across it I enjoy watching them.... I also didn't mind dig wars...I see some comments about not liking the pranks on dig wars but don't see anything wrong with having little extra fun..... When people find out that I detect many of them comment about seeing diggers on TV and have favorable comments..... Ric Savage didn't do us any favors I'm afraid... wildherre

It is hard for me to tolerate their silliness on the Diggers show and it would be nice if they were using real time audio for their detectors but, I still enjoy seeing what they find. Dig wars was a lot less annoying but seemed like it was mostly centered around relic hunting which I don't have much interest in. I remember seeing a show called Treasure Hunting America that I thought was pretty good. Until something better comes along it looks like I'll be on youtube watching dirtfishing, auquachigger, gravediggermax, etc. Thank goodness for youtube.
