Diggers Back On?

GateKeeper

Well-known member
I just saw that National Geographic has a new series called DIGGERS that airs tomorrow night. I think these are the
same knucklehead's that were on last year caliing Civil war relic's "Civ's" and what not. After all the problem's
from American Digger show, I'm curious.

Any thought's?

No they do NOT .... THAT AMERICAN DIGGERS is what is screwing up our hobby. My wife and I was on the local news for our detecting on a old farm stead. We had a tons of people that told us that what we was doing was a good thing .Alot of folks didnt even know what a detector was . God help us if we all get labled or judged by todays tv shows . My honest opinion on this is if you don't like it don't watch it . I happen to love it I'm glad its back on and cant wait. I have had people ask me this question while asking for permission .YOUR NOT GOING TO DO WHAT THAT AMERICAN DIGGERS DO TO MY LAND ARE YOU. HECK NO ..... I WOULD LOVE TO DETECT WITH THESE GUYS I'm not sure what they do with their findings but my wife and I always give the land owner for pick on what they want , and I'm sorry to said even if its EVERYTHING WE HAVE . I wish them luck and H H

Publicity is not what we need for our hobby. It can work against us also. It gets newbes fired up to get a new $100 detector and go out and trash a park or not ask permission to hunt. Like you said "Alot of folks didnt even know what a detector was" Well, in my opinion it needs to stay that way. It does'nt take a smart person to think, gee, these people want to hunt my land..there must be something valuable here!!! And sure, if you found a $20 double eagle gold piece you would give it up.....

Well sir I said I give the land owner everything that's what we do.That's how we build relationships and how we give us or some a fighting chance at this hobby and to gain permission at doing so . If we are in it for the money than I guess we need our own show then don't we.As far as newbies I believe you andI I started out once with the hopes of a big score or even that big silver . When I started this hobby there sure wasn't someone telling me how and what I was going to do. I learned that from my parents. Those who choose to do bad things like tear up a park it isn't because they have a detector in their hands its about them as a person and sir we cant do anything about that but to share this great hobby not to keep it in the dark. IMHO..

Hi Gatekeeper, Yeah, I have plenty of thoughts about what we can expect from the next "crock" from Diggers. Just that, another "crock"/ more of the same and likely worse than the first batch.Morerelic55 is right on target with his thoughts and that is easily born out by the amount of unfavorable"reviews" from those that watched only one of the first batch. Those that follow Nat Geo.(or History Channel) and pay even slight attention will realize that they are not above pushing whatever agenda they may feel is needed for any particular given time/place Another time/opportunity now for Nat Geo,once again,to voice about, "us" and if you think "we"will garner any good from it I would suggest you start watching and listening with all your facilities,, and paying better attention! Ain't gona happen. HH, Charlie

There are already property owners out there that have paid attention, especialy in the eastern US where the Civil War was the thickest. They have been bugged to death by people so much that they will not let folks hunt. Now I'm not greedy, but I make a display of some finds that I find on peoples property and give it to them. I'll tell you right now that if I find a plate or a good coin, it goes in my "left" pocket, because most of the land owners that I hunt on would just throw in in a can or a box and no one would see it anyways. We just don't need a new generation of hunters out there that are in it "Just To Find It" or to tear places up. I've even known people to "Night Hunt' places that they were told NO to hunt!!!!!!!!...................Mark

Well said fowler but the truth is that it can't be stopped. Tim and George spent 6 long months filming 20 episodes. Archie's were involved and they made some great historical finds, nothing planted. When they dug a find they had to leave it there so the Archie could catalog it. It made for very long days. Yes all the antics are still there but hey they gotta make it interesting right. Anyway might as well just enjoy the show, or not that's fine also. HH

I guess you just gotta love the history and the passion .There is always going to be something wrong or somebody not seeing eye to eye . HAPPY NEW YEAR..... May your digs be awesome even if its just a find .Goodluck Diggers we will be watching and supporting you . :twodetecting:

No rm and kg did but the Archie's took over and concerned it.

I have watched the trailers on Nat Geo and it seems like this is the best of the metal detecting shows that have been on TV so far. Nothing seems to be planted and the hunters are working with an Archie, so nothing is sold for make believe prices.

All in all, I think Nat Geo and the Montana boys are representing the hobby well. Sure, we like to keep the hobby to ourselves but realistically, it is impossible to do, so if they are going to go public, I would rather have the Diggers representing our hobby than a Savage. I hope the Diggers would do an episode or two helping John Q. Public find and return a cherished lost item or two, now THAT would be good PR for the hobby and a good watch on TV too.

I have no idea if its a good or bad show, I've never seen either one.
All I know is detecting has been banned in a lot of parks across the nation over the past year.
Coincidence?

Whatever image this show is projecting, the fact remains that more people have seen it on TV than you want to believe. And as a direct result of it, I have more than once been sent away from a good spot with a big fat NO .. even lost a good spot where I was welcomed a year earlier. But you guys will have an endless supply of virgin sites because you are famous. It is all completely self-serving ... and selling out at the expense of our great hobby. I will not comment further .. and certainly won't be watching the show.

I agree!!!!! Nuff said:cheers:

Have not seen this one yet but if it is anything like the previous shows, it will certainly be detrimental to our hobby. I do agree that a show based on finding actual lost items and returning them "MAY" be a worthwhile show and could shine a positive light on metal detecting if done properly.

I watched part of the "Diggers" show last spring, the one at an old Montana prison site, and it sucked. Watching two grown men acting like 5 year olds and spouting baby talk was neither entertaining or educational. I was one of it's biggest critics because it portrayed detector users as idiots, and also because it was more in line with the programming on the Cartoon channel than Nat Geo. No question it gave the hobby a black eye and caused an uproar by archaeologists, and also gave the erroneous impression that anyone could buy a detector and immediately begin making good finds. Hopefully the new episodes will portray detecting accurately, including showing hunts in which nothing good was found, but I doubt it will.
