Diggers and Savage Family Diggers, the find values are all wrong!

Who didn't know that the values that these guys place on items was not even close? I found a 1909-1926 Model T hubcap, Diggers found one identical that they said was worth $200. I thought that I had a good find since mine was in better shape. Today I looked on Ebay, I saw the identical one as mine and the one that they said they sold but in three times the condition for $20 .... and it hasn't even sold! Just one more thing to debunk on that show.

I don't have time to watch any so called "reality" shows.......I have a life.

I wonder if MD sales have increased since the "Diggers" make it look so easy and so profitable. I guess the bright side is that there may be viewers out there that run right out and buy a MD then find the "reality" of treasure hunting isn't that easy nor profitable, then sell their barely used MDs on forums like this for cheap.

Those guys assume way too much when they are describing their finds and what happened leading up to the loss of the items that they find. Come on guys that's a metal detector not a time machine. I wish my 705 was a time machine. I would set it to the day after these guys get pulled by the network. The same day the world becomes a better place.

ramairnut, I can tell you that your assumption is correct, people are looking at MDing as a profitable hobby and buying, or at least considering, buying detectors. A friend of mine called me and said that he was thinking of buying an Etrac ... having never owned a detector .... and thinking that it would be a profitable hobby. I would bet that he got the idea from some of these bonehead shows.

I always get asked ,either by friends or strangers(while MD'ing)" Does that thing tell you what's in the ground?"Of course I reply that it gives me a good idea but I will dig to find out. Then I am asked, "so you must dig some junk too, huh?"
I reply that some days I dig more junk than keepers. My favorite comment that sometimes comes next is "Well I saw a commercial for a MD on TV the other night(Whites MDs old commercial, I can't believe it still airs ) and it has a symbol light up on the screen to tell you exactly what you have found, you should have bought one of those." Anyway , this is another fine example of people's perception of MD'ing based on how glamorous and easy TV has made treasure hunting appear.Proof, that hype sells! The Diggers show is filmed to get ratings/viewers and probably some suckers along the way that believe that MD'ing is that easy and profitable. I just hope that the Diggers don't come out with their own rebadged MD to sell on their show:rolleyes:Remember the Ronco Pocket Fisherman?

People will watch those bozos and go out and buy a detector and copy there poor coil technique and won't find didily, more for you and me!

I really don't enjoy watching those bozos. They are enthusiastic, but it all seems put on for TV to me.

I watched Savage Family Diggers last night ... Rick Savage has no skill what so ever when it comes ot swinging a coil. This goes to show you that it's either put on, they have no skills, or both! He had a foot of air under his coil at the end of both swings.

Ha! I noticed the exact same thing probably at the same part of the show.

When you watch Diggers they don't overlap their swing. I've seen them leave a foot or two between each swipe because of how fast they are walking.

If both of these traits are exactly how this group of guys detect off camera, I think we could make a show consisting of us going back to the locations that they were at and showing what they missed.

I have to say that I watch both shows weekly more or less to see what they find. Sometimes during the theatrical hype I almost have to hold my hand over my eyes and look through my fingers like watching a horror movie as a kid. Luckily like those old movies the "drama" only lasts a few seconds.

I was doing some detecting searches last week and ran across this amateur video of Frank Huguelet aka Ric Savage. The interview looks like it takes place on the beach near the Hotel Del Coronado near San Diego. This is Ric minus the "BOOOOM BAAABY" and he actually seems fairly normal in this interview. If he could maintain this tone through his show, they might just have something. I think he's probably a good guy but the producers of the show are pulling his strings.

Wonder how the producers of the show would feel if we made a reality show about tv producers. If I was directing the show I would have someone standing their with a clap board and instead of yelling "MARK" and slamming the clap board closed I would have the guy yell "BOOOOOM BAAABY". Instead of saying "That's a wrap" I would have them say "The Juice Is In The Hole". Boy could you imagine the buzz on the producer/director forums!"
