DIGGER SURVEY

If you were purchasing a new hand digger with serrations (for root cutting) would you want the serrations on the left, right or both sides of the digger. That's holding the digger in front of you with the blade facing up. Please respond below this post. Thank you.

but I don't like any of the current tools.
I much prefer a small hand shovel (Home Gardener brand cast aluminum from Home Depot) and a drywall saw (I've got the Stanley with scabbord(sp?)
These shovels are INCREDIBLY strong, I expected to break them in no time, but I've got hundreds of holes without any problem.
The "stab" or drywall saw is MUCH sharper than any multipurpose digging tool, so it slices through roots like they were made of marshmallows.
Again, sorry for not answering your direct question, but I thought there would be value in explaining WHY I don't use a purpose built tool.

Well, I've busted all of the composit trowels which I've gotten from Garrett and Menards. I currently use a HEAVY metal one. Of course our dirt is still froxen too, LOL

I would go without. I have a $3 stainless garden shovel from Lowe's that is super stiff and well built. I prefer separate cutting tool.

On the left. I am always turning mine upside down to cut. I did notice recently that they do sell them both ways............

im with you on that i have the same kind and i allso buy me a regular garden spade then cut it down with a grinder to about 6" long 4" wide and it looks like a v the very bottom is about 1" wide and flat
i keep the bottom sharp to cut roots

I made my own digger from an old power hacksaw blade.
It is flat, and I can use its saw edge left or right handed...

It is too awkward trying to cut roots on that knife with the teeth on that particular side. However, I sure do like my Lesche digger. Hope this helps.

Both sides of the digger. That is the only thing i dont like about my lesche. I want teeth on both sides.

Wow, what a lot of different opinions. For general use, I prefer a "Lesche type" digger with teeth only on one the right side. I normally cut from right to left, and for lawns and areas with roots less than pencil size, a sharp smooth edge is better than teeth. Since there are so many preferences though, sounds like you should make totally smooth, left-toothed, right-toothed, and both-toothed. HB

That's neat and I like the way it will cut while pushing away or towards the ground/root. Much safer than pulling it towards you. I may try to fabricate something myself like it.
Take Care
