Digger mentioned a shovel carrying the other day, and I thought of another issue I face

Moderators, as Digger did, I realize that this might not be the right forum, but I am looking for responses from people that use the same machine I do. Please give it a couple of days or so before moving it. thanks..

If I am not going into hard country, I tend to wear tennis shoes when out metal detecting. Also, due to my almost 60 years of age, it is my personal choice to use a Predator Mauler shovel, and cut a horse shoe, etc., etc.

My problem is this. The lip on the top edge of the shovels I have seen, is small...not even 3/4 of an inch. This lack of size, in the arch of my shoe, under my weight, breaks down the sole of my shoes at the point of contact. I bought a new pair of tennis shoes a month ago, and the bottom broke down within a week.

So, I am replicating what a fellow detectorist friend of mine has done on his predator relic pro, and I thought, hmmmmm, surely there are others out there that have the same issue as I do with shoe breakdown.....so, here is a great solution. Also, I would be interested in seeing any other ideas on preventing shovel/shoe issues from you guys. I think the larger surface area will make all the difference in the world.

When I got the Raven from Predator Tools, I also got the rubber plated strips to bolt to holes drilled in that plate (along the top edge of the blade). It is similar to a piece of tire rubber on a steel plate, and comes with bolts embedded in them. I don't know if George sells them as a separate item? But if he does, I'd recommend you look into them. Perfect solution for tennis shoe hunters like us! HH Randy

Have you tried a pair of industrial tennis shoes like sketchers? They have steel toes
But they seem to hold up really well. Just have keep your feet away from your coil.

I had the same problem with me Lesche 80T model. Ever since I switched to the Raven (pictured above), problem solved!!!
