Digger Info needed

The hunting knife i use bends at the handle when prying up the plug so i decided to make a digger. I was goning to make it a hunting Knife
style but decided not to after reading many post say how important it is to have the hand guard. so lesche style it is.

But i could use some dimensions and tips on what you like in a digger.I am using hardened steels 56-61 rockwell like A-2,D-2, M-2, CPM-15V, Vanadium4. it is not 5 Hour job.
It's not that i'm cheap, i just like the satisfaction of making my own tools especially if they come out better than one bought.
the fisrt try will probably be A-2 steel

1) need dimension (heigth) of center of handle from bottom of blade. Is handle better closer to blade or in middle of guard.
2) Demension of the handguard from bottom of blade and width.
3) best over all lenght and width of blade (connot be bent concave like other diggers due to it hardness)
4) how about a magnet pressed or epoxyed an 1 1/4 up from tip? good yes or no? has any one tried this?
5) any suggestions appreciated

Thanks, Epi

Hi Epi; Sizes for my ideal tool are as follows : Remember I'm not that technically savvy but I DO know how to dig. 39 years now.

(1). Blade Length to the hilt.: 8" Width = 4 - 6"
(2). Hilt. : As comfortable for you. Blade set in Center
(3). Handle : Solid Steel with LeatherBinding.
(4). Pummel : Hammer Head type.
(5). Blade Design. : Place saw teeth on "Both" sides of blade right up to the hilt. I hate not being able to cut through tree roots.
(6) Make it all "ONE" Solid Piece.

Another words Epi; Give it some real guts that do the job right the first time and every time.Don't skimp. OK It will last you a lifetime if made right and it will tear through "any" type of digging you will encounter "EVER".

Reason not to just buy is as you said; "It's the Fun". Best Wishes. Waiting for the Pics. PEACE:RONB :detecting:

Hi Barker, Thanks for your reply. Lesche digger $43.95, Used Ace 250 $170, 39 years experiance PRICELESS.

Wow,4-6 inches wide. "Hither, came CONAN! sullen eyed,SWORD in hand a thief,a slayer, a TREASURE HUNTER".
Is your digger that wide?
I was going to put 2-3 inches of saw teeth but up to the hilt they shall be.

thanks, again Epi

Hi Epi; The width was only a guess on my part but what ever makes you comfortable ok. Thanks.Saw Teeth are a "MUST". They are indespensable. Don't forget the Hammer Head style pummel. ok. Post Pics of your finished Product OK. PEACE:RONB
