Dig Those Zinc Penny Signals

Dig Those Zinc Penny Signals

Hi all,
Was hunting a local park with my MXT and Bigfoot when I got a screw cap zinc penny signal. The VDI was 60 to 65, full bar, and good audio. Seemed a little different than most zincs that usually lock on a VDI number so I thought it was probably a screw cap.

I probed and touched a target at about 2 inches. Used the probe to lift the target and out popped one of the most unusual (UGLIEST) silver rings I have ever seen. I ran the Bigfoot over the area and got no other signal. I laid the ring on the ground and got a consistent, full bar, 72 VDI.

This is a LARGE ring. It easily has as much silver as a quarter. It must be the shape that keeps it from having a higher VDI.

At my metal detecting club meeting I entered the ring in the contest. It is way too ugly for the best jewelry category so I entered it in the most unusual category and it won. My prize was a silver round.

I am going to try to post pictures. BTW, the pictures actually flatter the ring. It is far uglier than the pictures indicate.

Dig those zinc penny signals.

Your right, that is the ugliest ring I have ever seen. Although I must say it is a very good find. Hey! it has to be a good find- look at the prize you won at your club meeting. Way to go! Mike

Hi:

Nice find. Like to find those rings anytime.
Great silver round you received as a club prize.
Looks like you finding a lot of clad so far this year.
So keep the coil to the soil and keep on beeping.

It truly is fun sharing some of the more unusual finds and experiences.

Have fun, Bob

Bob, that is definitely one of the most unusual rings I have ever seen! It surely must have been custom designed for someone. A strange combination of stones, too--if I'm not mistaken, it looks like pearl, moonstone, sunstone, and rutilated quartz. Perhaps these were favorites of the wearer or they have some cosmic significance? Whatever the explanation, that one is a keeper strictly for its sheer oddity.

HH,

Dan

Thanks Dan,

I think you may be correct about the identity of the pearl, rutilated quartz, and moonstone . The only one that I am still questioning is the "sunstone". It almost looks like some form of druzy rose quartz.

Why these stones were incorporated into a single ring is beyond me.

Thanks again for your help.
Bob
