Different methods of beach hunting, I've witnessed.

I get to park myself on a Gulf Coast beach , for 2 months a year. (January_February) Not warm enough for much beach partiers. But I do have almost unlimited beach to hunt for what's left from the season. I have seen some guys hunt the fresh drop method. Big coil, moving along, pretty fast, swinging away. I don't see them dig much, but something must be working for them.
I usually meander around until I find something, than beat the area around there real good. This involves walking the line, or the wet, sometimes wading some. Griding also comes into play sometimes. Last 4 years the AT Pro has been my beach machine. This year I bought a Garrett Infinium PI. Got the 8" mono & stock 14" D coils. Mud hunted it pretty hard this past summer.(Managed 1000 coins) hunting in fairly clean areas. One beach pi method I've just read about is - Pick out a area, dig everything, then go back over. Idea is clear out the trash that could be masking deeper targets. I got a lot of time , so I'm going to try this out in a few places. Truthfully I sometimes dig as many coins in one day mud hunting as I do in a month on that beach. (Off season blues) But hunting with a scoop and having a chance of gold makes a good break. It's going to be interesting for me if the Infinium can increase my finds this year. This beach is a spring break town. Got to be the trashest place I've ever hunted. And that's with discrimination! But I got nothing but time.

I think you are getting a good feel for that place..I remember you found that silver ring in a parking area last year right? I think you will do real well this year depending on the conditions...it takes a while to figure out a beach.

Good Luck Dancer!! Sounds like a plan and always worth a shot. I do think that will pay off if you get the right place. Keep us informed on your adventure.

Good luck with the new machine! Be sure to let us know how its panning out.

During the Winter, I find myself watching a lot of those youtube 'Spring Break' vids...not necessarily for the scantily clad girls, although thats nice... but for the heavy chains that may be appearing (or disappearing) on the drunken revelers.....
I suppose a fellow could come up with a decent plan and do some hunting on some offshore sandbars where the kids go to raft up perhaps..someplace out of reach by the general coil swinging snowbirds...I think a guy can pinpoint some of those locations that are getting the heavy gold chain wearing Jersey Shore types, and do a run...those chains are a hard signal, so they may see a coil or two and get passed over as trash is what I'm thinking, and a guy has to hunt where the chain wearers have frequented for years to up the odds...nobody with a decent rig is gonna miss a ring, its those heavy chains that can really make a guys year...just running this thought up the flagpole for dialog and perhaps to add to your strategy a bit... Theres so much danged sand, a fellow has to think a bit is all...CarterNY has some pretty cool vids of hunting the jump off areas...but without tanks and the right gear, a guy has to really think and come up with a plan...Good Luck, you sure got us through last Winter with some of your adventures..:beers:.

FYI if you want to go back to the beach hunting with the AT Pro there is a coil you can get that will make it go deeper than the infinium on a low conductive target (nickel or gold ring). I don't remember off the top of my head what it was called but Detector Comparisons on Youtube has a video showing this. The AT Pro can get a nickel at 14" with the coil...hard to believe until you see it! It's deeper than the infinium...
