Different coils different ID #'s

New member
I've had my X-70 for almost a year now and love it.
I have 5 coils, stock coil, 6" MF C, 6" HF DD, 10.5" MF DD, and the 5"x10" HF DD.
Why do different coils give slightly different ID #'s on the same targets??
Not to mention slightly different tones as well.
Holy cow!......how am I suppose to really know my machine when things keep changing?
Actually I'm slowly getting to know each coil but I ain't getting any younger and neither is my memory:wacko:

When did you notice that? Air test or actual coins in the ground? I haven't noticed anything different. But, then, what do I know. I've only had my machime a little over a month and still learning.

Each coil has a different winding. They are effectively work like an aerial on a radio. As I understand it, the windings are like the length on an antenna. By changing the length, you are tuning the radio to pick up certain frequencies better. This can slightly alter how it picks up the same item slightly differently.
I'm not electronically inclined, but this is how I understand it.
Mick Evans.
