The NEL BIG DD coil, if you really want to cover a lot of ground fast. Difficult to pinpoint UNDER WATER, of course, not bad on land or sand. It kills my arm in about 45 minutes. A Minelab ProSwing 45 solved that problem.
The 5x8 as John mentioned. It is also great for youngsters to learn with, lighter and easier to pinpoint for the beginner.
The Sniper 4.5 coil for really tight places like between ceiling joists and in heavy over growth. With the notch filter on the ATPro it is a killer for finding lost rings.
I find nothing wrong with the standard coil, but every coil / detector combination will really shine in its own environment. No one combination can do everything. That is why I have all 4 coils for a great detector, the ATPro.
I like the Nel Storm 13x14 with my AT-PRO
I have a friend who is using the Nel Big 15x17, He stated yesterday he found a half Reale 16 inches deep.
The only issue is weight, a lot of detectorist are only able to put a couple of hrs in swinging, If you decide to go with a larger coil, you might want to get a Harness to balance the weight

dennis,
Does low temperatures effect the coil and or electronics? Just bought an AT pro and I just can't wait to get outside and use it but it's winter time in the north east.
Ask John Edmonton. He'll show how to rig your detector for sub freezing temps. I have hunted in the teens down this way a number of times and no detector malfunctions. HH jim tn
Guess that's a benefit of living down south...u can hunt year round...problem is I think you guys have better coins to find there...very hard finding stuff here...so far...but I'm not givin up...
Ho no, never give up! I live in Indiana so ....yeah there's snow on the ground now so i switch gears and hit the library for some local research and history digging! It pays off... Besides i've even tried digging the frozen ground with propane torch! To me twaznt worth it!! So i wait for a break in the weather!
HH. N never surrender!
GARRETT RECOMMENDS NOT TO GO OUT DETECTING BELOW FREEZING,/ 32 DEGREES
i WENT OUT LAST WEEK DETECTING AT 25 DEGREES I HAD NO PROBLEMS, I COULD BE EFFECTING THE ELECTRONICS IF I CONTINUE USING LONG TERM AT THE BELOW FREEZING, NOT SURE ON THAT
