Differences in Excaliburs

I owned an Excalibur with blue headphones in a former life. The new Excals have yellow headphones right?
I am looking at an older excal with red headphones and a horseshoe shaped coil. (It also comes with a WOT)

What is the difference between these machines other than the color of the headphones and the shape of the coils?

It looks like the Red headphone machine can be bought for about half the price of the a new unit. Is it worth spending the extra dough for a new one?

Excals have progressed for a reason. Just remember that when thinking of shelling out the bucks for an older unit. One gets what one pays for...
