Difference between the BH 101 Pioneer and the BH 202

I see the BH 101 is no longer being made. What is the difference between the BH 101 and the BH 202?
Also, for those of you who used the BH 101, what is or was you experience with it and how does it compare
to newer BH detectors? Do all BH detectors operate on the same frequency?

The Bounty Hunter " Tracker IV " is the same unit as the " Pioneer 101 " which was the name for the unit when sold through Walmart stores. The Tracker IV is still being manufactured. Most or all models in the standard Bounty Hunter line as far as I know use 6.59khz as an operating frequency. The differences between the 101 & 202 mostly revolve around the i.d. and descrimination circuits with the 101 being more of a " turn on and go " machine. If you want to just hit some parks, etc, and snag some rings & coins, stuff like that, I would feel comfortable using a 101. I have heard they are really killer on rings. Get a 101 and use your finds to pay for a better unit later on. Best of luck.

Hi Suninyourhand:

Thats a nice "forum name" you gave yourself. I like it.

Yea, I decided to look into the BH as my young neighbor friend
has one, and I, like so many people out there has never had much
respect for BH or WalMart for that matter.

Since the young fellow had never been metal detecting as far as I know,
I took him out with me ( I use an Ace 250 and an MXT ) and showed him
how to use it. I think he understands "sensitivity ( gain on the MXT ) and discrimination.
ALso I showed him how to dig and properly retrieve targets and cover/fill in the holes.

This was a good experience for me; it helped me overcome some of my
prejudice against the Walmart brand or BH in general. The BH is basic but
for the money it held it's own against the Ace. I really liked the three tones it
gives out in Jewlery mode ( the toggle swith to the right and discrimination at 12 o'clock.
It was accuate for the most part. Although I'm spoiled on VCO pinpointing, the 101
did pinpoint very well but "depth" still leaves much to be desired.

I did not realize the exact context of the question as I had not noticed your other post on the matter. The most impressive finds I have seen with a low end detector were with ones made by a guy with a TrackerIV/101 detector a while back. There was a link to the other forum where he had extensive photos of his finds and it was impressive. He used his finds to pay for a new upscale detector of some kind. I thought that was kinda neat. I thought the story connected to your questions regarding these detectors was fairly tragic...but maybe the road to an attempted new reality is the ultimate payoff and not the detectors or any future finds with them. " Suninyourhand " is a song from the mid 70's by the German rock group the Scorpions.
