Difference between Sovereign GT & XS?

Both the XS and the GT are excellent detectors, better than many that cost much more. The XS was made back around 1995 as I got mine in 1996 and the XS had the 8 inch coinsearch coil many still want today as these made the tones stand out better, but wasn't waterproof. It had the plug in battery pack so you had to be a little careful taking the battery out for charging so you didn't break the wires. The XS was on a S shaft. Now the GT has the better battery pack as it just snaps in so you don't have to worry about the wires. With the GT is more toggle switches too as you can turn on or off the iron mask, it has a noise cancel switch to flip to change the freq slightly in case you get some interference from electrical or from another detector. The GT also has a silent search mode that you can just flip a toggle switch if you want to run silent search or with a threshold. Another feature with the GT is when you run all metal you can switch between ground trac, lock or pinpoint that was not on the XS or the XS2 or the XS2a or even the Elite, but was on the original. This I understand was more for use when prospecting. The GT also here in the USA came on a straight shaft which make it easier to handle. The GT has the new 10 inch Tornado coil which is one of the best coils out there and surprising works good in moderate trash.
My opinion of using all the different model Sovereigns the GT can do more and more sensitive than the others, also the ID is better at the extreme depth once you know the Sovereign well. Being more sensitive i notice a little more falsing on iron, but easy to tell the difference once you come at the target from a different angle to check it.
