Difference between Explorer SE and Sovereign GT?

Looking at Minelabs for silver coins and gold rings in mild soil in addition to South Carolina beaches, wet sand and dry, not water. I have never operated a minelab of any type but have experience on Fisher CZ's and AT Pro. Is the Explorer SE just a metered version of the Sovereign GT? ...or is there more? Do they both have the same sounds? I would imagine the GT might be a bit more rugged w/o a meter. I find myself hunting more and more by sounds but do like knowing the apx depth of a target via the meter. It doesn't matter much in the sand, but it sure helps in rocky soil! Maybe I need a GT with just a depth meter :)

Thanks for any input.

It's the difference between dogs and cats. The Sov and the Explorer are similar and yet very different. The sov has 17 frequencies if I remember correctly; The Expl has far more. The Exp is an fbs, where the sov is a bbs. The metering is totally different. If for no other reason than the meter, I would still prefer the exp. The exp meters both conductivity and ferrous content, giving a much clearer id on a target. The depth meter, while not absolute, is nice to have.
Lest you think that I am discounting the sov, I had one of the first, and have owned four. If I could not have the exp, I would immediately go and buy another sov... But that may soon not be an option. Minelab has discontinued both the Exp SEPro and the sov gt.
