difference between excal 8 and 10 inch coils

After all the gold and ice I have been looking at from other members on this forum,(not that I'm doing badly myself),I have decided to go with an excal for this coming summer season.
If someone with more experience could explain the pros and cons of the 8 and 10 inch discs for this detector it would be greatly appreciated.

[attachment 151949 IMG_0401.JPG]my last gold ring for 2009,a xmas gift from the surf gods..:clapping::minelab:
i have a 10" Excalibur 2 ,the difference is supposed to be that the 8" goes a bit deeper for smaller targets but more ground coverage with the larger one, Ive had a great time with mine.
i found this around Xmas time 2009 last gold ring for the year...the Excalibur does have a bit of a learning curve, but once you understand what tones are for what, you ll do great..i might ad you should get the ear CD when you get your new machine, it ll help allot..take your time to learn about how machine works and what to listen for in what modes and you ll do just fine..
good luck

Where are you hunting? By that I mean, which Beach's, that would be the deciding factor....Joe

I asked the same question 2 weeks ago, Seem to be the 8" is more used by those doing diving ( Less resistance through the water & a bit easier to poke in around things ) & pretty much everyone else ( Beach & Surf ) uses the 10", Have seen it said that the 8" gives a little more depth & is better in a very trashy area but i figure there are plenty of beaches out there that arent totally trashed & water users are replenishing with goodies almost daily. Asked Minelab Australia & they sell predominately the 10" model, rough ratio of 8 to 1. As i am used to the Soverign GT with a 10" coil, I have ordered the Excal with the 10" coil & will be picking it up in about 10 days. Hanging to try in the water 1. Without fear of dropping the machine in the water, 2. And to emulate the success that a lot of forum members have.
Cheers
Ashley

Actually divers I BELIEVE use the 10 " coil more. Waders perfer the 8". I use 10" on my Fishers exclusively EXCEPT when I am hunting the weeds in Michigan lakes, then I use my 8" CZ to push them over. Its unbelievable how many gold rings you can find in weeds!!!!

I will be hunting in the Mediterranean, and Im wondering if the excal is going to give me probs with false signals when it is submerged, that kind of thing.
I dont want to go with a PI because I want to be digging everything. I am thinking and from what I have read, the excal is a more versatile detector.
