Diff between 10.5 DD 7.5 kHz and the 18.75kHz

Just curious, what is the 7.5kHz best for vs what is the 18.75kHz best for? Which one would be better for relic hunting?

And I think I like the 7.5 better...the 18.75 was a little too sensitive to little bits of foil.(I use them mostly for coin hunting). I did try the 18.75 for nugget hunting, but didnt find anything. So in the long run, I kind of like the 7.5 better.

Between the two large DD coils, I don't see much difference in depth. I did find the higher frequency 18.75 is a bit more sensitive than the 7.5. As such, I had to lower my sensitivity down to keep it from chattering. In my mind, if you have to lower the sensitivity on a coil that is more sensitive to begin with, the end result is pretty much the same. As to frequency variance, lower frequency coils are better suited for higher conductive targets (e.g. silver and copper)and will detect larger higher conductive targets at greater depths than higher frequency coils. On the other hand, higher frequency coils are more sensitive to smaller targets and thought to be more sensitive to lower conductive targets (e.g. gold). Although I don't consider myself a relic hunter, based on most of the previous X-Terra posts from relic hunters, the 7.5 kHz DD seems to be the favorite. In my opinion, it will hunt as deep as the 18.75 and will probably not be as sensitive to deep iron targets. Whereas the higher frequency might be best for beachcombing and prospecting. Either will work well for most coinshooters. But again, that is JMO. HH Randy

Thanks Randy, I've read that the 7.5kHz is best for relic hunting too. I was confused about what would be best because of a chart I saw where it listed lead (like what you find in all Civil War bullets) as being better found using the 18.75kHz coil. But, I really don't want to be find a lot of real small targets, like bits of foil, etc. Small cuff buttons are probably some of the smallest relics of value.

Lead does not as high of conductivity as silver or copper. So in that regard, the 18.75 kHz could be a bit more sensitive to it. However, having used both extensively, I am confident that either one of them will find those small cuff buttons. I said I didn't relic hunt, and I don't. Not because I don't appreciate relics. But because I live in a State where there have not been any battles or major encampments. As a coin hunter that likes to hunt old sites for old coins, I have stumbled across a few buttons with my X-Terra. Here is a pic of one of my favorites. HH Randy
