After some really rough weather that had the beach being pounded by big surf during some major high tides, I finally was able to get in the water with the Xcal for six hours today. It was a good hour before high tide when I started this morning and still going out when I quit this afternoon.....It sure was nice to see flat calm water for a change!! I hunted in PP most of the time only switching to disc if it took more than a couple of scoops to retrieve a target. I had to remove and pocket lots of bottle caps and pins a couple of times from the scoop magnet when it started getting too cluttered in there. In spite of a lot of trash some real nice targets showed up in the scoop....First ring was the 10k, 2.4g with red stone, which I'm sure is neither a ruby or garnet. My jeweler schooled me on how to look, with good light backing and a loop, for floaters/specks or imperfections in the stone to determine if they are real or not. This one is glass clear!! I'll still run it by him later this week, but if that's a real ruby it would be worth a lot and I doubt it would be mounted in 10k...although it is secured in there with a lot of prongs...It will get checked!!
Second ring was the big, 8.9g, 925 ring that at first glance in the scoop I thought it was a Tungsten from the dull look of it, but a size 13.5 Tungsten would of felt a lot heavier in my hand. Another thought was Titanium till I was able to see a 925 stamp, it looks like it's been down there a while and just needs a good clean & polish.
The third and by far best ring is the 18k, 3.4g diamond ring...3 nice looking diamonds boarded on both sides by 3 smaller ones. Tough to see the hallmark till I got home and was pleasantly surprised to see 18k...Sweet!!
North East wind for the rest of the week should make for some great hunting around here, hope to get out again tomorrow and score some more goodies. Water temp is still around 80, but that and the wind direction will change after this weekend with a front coming in. GL ALL
