I never cared for the Compadre or Silver microMAX
(µMAX) because they were too limiting in their design, The Compadre lacked an external Gain / Sensitivity adjustment and had a hardwired coil, and the Silver µMAX had the interchangeable col and Sensitivity adjustment, but the more limited lower-end Discrimination adjustment range.
The Mojave provides us with a Sensitivity control like the Silver microMAX and the variable aed-180 Disc. adjustment range of the Compadre, plus the selectable 2- position GB setting that is very useful when hunting a variety if sites when the ground mineral make-up varies from very mild to extreme. The audio tone is very pleasant, and it comes with a new 7" Concentric coil that very functional for searching a variety of sites. I got mine as soon as they were introduced and have enjoyed using it through this year. It is a solid member of my
Regular-Use Detector Team, and after swapping all my Tesoro search coils around I finally settled on leaving the new Precision 7 Inch Concentric coil on my Mojave.
I am sure we will see another new model from the good folks at Tesoro when they have something designed and field tested. Until then I am sure to keep my all-time favorite Tesoro models on-hand to complement my choices of visual TID models. I think folks can forget about the once spoken of name, Cazador, as it just isn't going to happen. It was a model name for a unit that was under consideration, but plans for that model basically came to an end for understandable reasons.
Tesoro has produced a lot of models, and they have a working line-up at this time. Their overall design approach, which has been to produce quick-response / fast-recovery devices that, for the most part, have been non-display detectors that work well in a wide-range of site conditions, have worked quite well, and they continue to do just what they were designed to do. That why I keep several of my personal favorites in my detector arsenal, and I believe every savvy detectorists ought to have at least one or two Tesoro models in their working detector battery. There is no such thing as a 'perfect' metal detector, but for many site and applications a good Tesoro & coil combination can get the job done for use quite well.
Matter-of-fact, it's 12:30 AM now so I'll be heading out with several of my detectors already loaded, including my Bandido II microMAX and Mojave today, in about 5 hours for a day of detecting enjoyment.
