Did anyone use 5x10DD coil on X70 or X50 yet ???

It seems somebody is using with it by now but nobody is saying much.
Next Tuesday I will receive 5x10 coil for my X-Terra 70. I will try it out on Florida wet and dry sand.

been thinking about getting the DD coil but waiting on some forum imput. Thanks and good luck on your Florida beach hunt. John

Took about 4 hours hunting at a old hunted out park I like to go to to check out detectors and coils. Only used the 5x10 DD today. In my garden I only have one coin buried and that is a dime (clad) buried down 8"s on edge. That is all I need for a garden. Real tough target to hear. The DD hit it consitantly but with a higer ID number 40 to 44 but that is not unusual for a deep target on edge. If you plan on using the DD coil you will need to sweep a little slower then you do with a concentric coil but the 70 and DD does have a good recovery speed. Good combination. Have not used the 7 khz coil yet. I will get to it in a little while. This Park is very trashy and has alot of iron in it and the targets are very tough to get at. The DD's always worked better in there especially my Shadow DD and the Shadow 5"coil. I am not doing compairing them today though. Anyway used the 5x10 DD and the x70. The deep stuff was down 10"s. Auto ground balanced out at about 59. Noise was at a +2. Did not use track yet because it is so trashey. l 1942D penny down 10"s, ID at 40/42/44, 1 1929 buff down 10"s, ID at 12/14/16, 1 1943P silver war nickle down 10"s, ID at 12/14/16, Dug 6 nickles they were 4 to 6"s down ID at 12,and some times 14 depended if they were not flat in the ground. 10 dimes no sliver, they were 4 to 6"s down ID at 38/40 same for 12 copper pennys Id at 38/40 down 4 to 6"s. X70 cant tell the difference between a copper penny and a clad dime. You are going to have to really pinpoint the target to get a good ID on the target. I did dig a few copper pennys and dimes that were at 2"to 4"s or less and they read 38. I did not bother to dig shallow targets as I was interested in how the DD and the X70 ID at depth. I used the 99 tones most of the time and found the low end tones were close together for me but I guess I just have to hunt with machine more plus I am like Rick (ND) can't hear so good anymore. I used the Shadow earphones as I prefer them as I can use them on all my detectors and I do't have to flip any switches or do anything but plug them in. Well got to go eat so if I think of anything else will let you guys know. For now the X70 and DD coil is a keeper. :D :D :D. Later Jerry aka Tinfoil.

I do believe I will get one of those 5x10 DD coils and probably the small concentric when it hits the market. Thanks, John

I will let you know when I am going over to Galveston when I decide to go. I got to go over to see the kids in Jacksonville Fl. and then go up to N.C. to take care of some business. When I get over to Jacksonville I will be hunting the beaches over there and will post on the beach hunting. For local hunting and dirt hunting I am not a fan of large coils. The only time I use the large coils is when I am on the beach. I would rather hunt with the 5x10dd coils and smaller coils. I probley have only used my large coil on my Exp ll 3 or 4 times in the last three years. I like the 7.5,and the Joey coil on my EXP ll. I only use the small and large DD's on my DFX and MXT and the 5" concentric sometimes. I need to take my CZ3d down to that old park and use my 5" coil and see how it does down there. Now the 3D I really like, it does exactly what they say the machine will do. It will pull the old stuff right out of those bad spots. I will definatly get the small DD when it comes out. The best DD coil I have ever used is the 5x10 shadow DD. :please: :super: It just can't be beat for any kind of hunting I have done so far. Well let me get out of here. Later bud, Jerry aka Tinfoil

That it appears that at 8"s plus, in my soil down here in Louisana which has alot of salinity, the ID of coins jump up a few numbers but, I can deal with that. I hunted in the iron and trash a lot today and would switch back and forth between all metal and pattern #1, Sensitivity at 28, threshold at 13 ( I don't hear to well and threshold helps me hear the deep targets). I will try the threshold tomorrow at 0 and see how it does for me. I use threshold on my DFX and don't use threshold on my MXT and I can run the MXT wide open. I used the prospecting mode to pinpoint some of the very deep targets. It worked great and helped when I had those deep iron targets mixed in with the good targets on ID when I would switch back and forth. The Prospecting mode also worked good when I would get one of those iffy high tone low tone bouncing signals and the pinpoint was jumping around. You just could tell when you were on a iron target that IDed in one spot and pinpointed in another especially when the target was real deep and bouncing around. Every time it did that and I dug the target it was a long piece of rusty iron like a nail or a bolt. I did not like the targets detuning (Ratchet pinpointing) when you pinpointed the target especially when the targets were down deep. I was never a fan of detuning anyway especially on deep targets. If I am on a shallow target I just lift the coil. I dug some really small targets deep. I dug a few 22 short shells at 8/10ID down 6, 7, and 8"s. Dug 1 small gold star at 5"s. Also a 3/8" wide, .030 thick 8 pointed gold plated flower at 5"s this was a tough target to find even with my vibra probe. I have a lot of very small gold, diamond stud earing's and earing backs, that I have found with my Shadow X5 and Mxt and that I use to test detectors. I have to say that the x70 and the DD did very well on the small stuff. Most of the vlf minelab machines suck on the small gold. I just hope it does well on a salt water beach as it appears to have done with Barnacle Bills test. I have had a lot good single freq machines bit the bullet when you get to a salt water beach and the black sand mixed in with the wet salt sand. Well, I have only hunted with the x70 one day and have only played around with it one day in my 1 target test garden about 2 hours and I have to say I really do like this machine. Ok guys thats it for now. Will let you know how it does . I am going to hunt with it a few days to get better used to it and see if there is anything else i like and dislike about it. Might even get to that big old coil out and on the x70. :D :D :D Later Jerry aka Tinfoil

I went back and counted the detectors I have and the count is 13 so with the X70 here now when I go to Fl to see the kids I think I will stop by Ronny Duggers and get rid of a few of them. How you likeing the X70 anyway?????? I always like reading your posts. I am not much at the posting but I just hunt alot.:jump::detecting::heh: Later bud Jerry aka Tinfoil.

Hey Jerry :)
Yeah I guess your right about us owning a lot of different detectors, it's always been just another part of this hobby I enjoy doing ... trying them all and weeding out the one's that work best for me.
Since I moved from Pensacola where the ground was so neutral and back up into the iron ore belt in Alabama after 25 years, I've had to THIN the herd quite a bit.
I replaced my Troy X-5 with a Sovereign GT, it just works better up here. I compared them for 6 months and the GT beat the X-5 pretty bad so it had to go, didn't think that would ever happen. But of course when Troy releases his new one ... yep, I'll check it out.
Tried several T2's and they were just to noisy for me and got crucified for posting about it, but it is what it is.

I've tried several Tesoros up here too, the Tejon, Cibola, Vaquero and the Super Traq. Out of those the Super Traq does the the better job but the weight kinda sucks so I'm thinking about selling it too.
The Nautilus 2ba I have is on a Whites shaft set-up and I just don't have enough money in it for it to bother me sitting in the closet until I want to use it ... it seems to work good anywhere I take it so it ain't going anywhere. Same with the Explorer, it's just to good everywhere I take it to let it go. All of the X-Terra's are excellent, especially the 70, it's my number one favorite out of the entire bunch. I never imagined a Minelab product that would weigh in at under 3lbs. that offered so much. In my opinion it's about as close to being the perfect detector as anything I've ever tried. It reminds me of a middle weight boxer that consistently throws a heavy weight punch !
No ... it's not quite as deep as the Explorer or my Nautilus but that's an unfair comparison anyway, but, it doesn't miss it by much and with everything it offers including the lack of weight and bulk makes it my first pick
I'm going to get the 5X10 DD soon and give it a shot, everybody I've talked with seem very impressed with the overall performance.
I'm GUILTY of slacking off the detecting here lately bud, since I moved up here close to Lake Guntersville I've had the Bass fishing bug take a BIG bite out of me :) Bought a little Bass Tracker boat and many $$$$ worth of fresh water rods and reels and have been going fishing several times a week. The scenery is good, the fishing is great and reckon I've just been a bum lately, you need to take some time and go wet a hook with me if you come this way :)

When I got the DD I looked thru some of my old stuff that I still had for the sovergian 2apro that I sold (sure didn't like that one even with the stright shaft I made for it. Was a real pig of a detector). The lower rods will work great on the DD coil and they have that rubber piece if you rough it up some will knock down some of the floppyness of the coil. It will fit perfect. So check your pile of stuff and it will save you $26 or more. You know how Minelab is, everything they got is made out of GOLD and they expect to get paid for it. I even saw where a guy made a rod out of Lowes 3/4" ( said it has a thicker wall then Home Depots pvc) pvc pipe and it looked good and cost him $5. Beats $26 anyday.
Well I thought you were still in "P"Cola. I haven't been fishing in a long time. Thanks for the invite, you never know I might just take you up on that. Have to ask though, do the bass swim up to you with pull tabs, coins and maybe a diamond ring in there mouths??? If so I will be there sooner then you think.:clapping::super: . I am glad :detecting: is just a hobby I could not make a living at it and I can't aford another one. Of course it is the only hobby I ever had that paid me a little back :jump:. Like you, my EXPll is going to stay also. I did not like what I was reading about the T2 so I saved my money on that one and on the Tejon. My bud down here Tim told me about the T2 so I didn't bother plus the negitive stuff I read saw and heard about it and that big coil stopped me from getting and trying it. So far the X70 has been a real good detector for me and I like it alot. I could never get the Sen up to 30 but I can't run the EXPll at 30 either. Best I can do on it is 28 manual and then it is a little noisy just like the X70 but you get some of the deep stuff. If you are not digging 10"s down here you are not going to get any old stuff. My ShadowX5(my favorite machine), CZ70, CZ20,CZ6A, CZ3D, MXT, EXPll, and the X70 are the only machines that will get 10+"s down here  . Now when I go over to Jacksonville to see the kids and do some Beach hunting and it don't preform on the beaches then it will be gone. Man I am telling you, being retired is better then Popcorn. Later bud, and tell me as soon as that special bass showes up and I wll be on my way to your place :super:. May All Your Days Be Filled With BASS and GOLD Jerry aka Tinfoil

Be careful Jerry, stranger things have happened
I read a post the other day where a guy caught some fish, went home and cleaned out his fish box and there was a ladies high school ring. Supposedly the fish had spit it out, but the guy gave it to a local sheriff who suspected a murder/dump into the pond scenario. The sheriff found the lady alive and well living 6 states away and she was glad to hear someone had found her ring.
So, the moral of the story is .... well, you just never know when that fish might get caught and you are on the way for a little bass fishing in Bama.

Well Thanks for the laugh this morning. I needed that. BTW the Tide is one of my favorite football teams along with the Gators. :super:. Man I love these Smileys. Later Mike. Jerry aka Tinfoil

starting the 27th of this month will have a GCCA tag on it. That's our Star Tournament where you can win a truck, boat, trailer and motor for catching the biggest Speck, not to mention a tagged Red, of course, if it spits out a class ring, that will be ok also.....John

I will have the 5X10 in a day or so. It was supposed to be here in time for the weekend but didn't make it.
