DID ANYBODY USE THE MXT AT D.I.V.7 if so what was results(pics)

Here's a few hi-lites. I've been using White's metal detectors since 1987 and the MXT is one of the best.

...although it took me time to get used to the "hot" soil. I'll post my pics soon, but to sum it up, I found part of a spur, 10 bullets (fired and dropped combined), about a 1/4 piece of a Shenkle round, an 1858 Flying Eagle Cent, parts of a brass shoulder scale, and two backs of federal buttons.

Did the DD coils work good? Did anyone use the 14 inch dd? what about
the excelerater coils, I am interested in relic hunting. A lot of people
would like to know you guys experences .People say (when I get use TO
THE HOT SOIL) Explain how the hot soil effects the MXT differantly that
you have to get use to it? what was your lowest and highest gain setting
used thru out the DIV hunt? LOT OF QUESTIONS I KNOW BUT LEARNING FROM
EACH OTHER SAVES TIME AND INCREASES FINDS . Thanks Barry Walker in VA.

10" Excelerator Coil
Relic Mode
Gain on +3 (wide open)
Disc at 2
Threshold at 1:00
Tracking on ground
Grey Ghost Headphones

I had to dig every little peep and pop. The VDI was basically useless in the hot stuff (until you got the target out of the ground) but right on the money in the good ground. Also, I found it beneficial to keep the coil a couple of inches above the ground. This gave a better target response and cut down on masking caused by the hot ground. Any time I got a high pitched tone I would dig. Some of the bullets read like small iron (up to about -40 I think) while the big iron went higher
(-41 to -80). I think that's about it. Depth was anywhere from 0" to 8" plus.

Keep Your Coil To The Soil!

...listen to your threshold. I had a few times where the threshold simply dropped out but I had no VDI response or beep. Turned out to be bullets. One thing that helps is to keep your coil still beside the target and let the threshold settle down (tracking) then try to pinpoint. Seemed give a better target response on some of the iffy targets.

Here's how I ran my machine:

Coil - 6"x10" DD Eclipse
Gain - Anything from preset up to max, depending on the ground
Disc - Mostly ran at 0
Grnd - Kept on Ground
Trigger forward
Threshold about 12 o'clock

I didn't see anyone running a large coil in that hot soil, there may have been, but I didn't see them. The trick is to GO SLOW! And like Horsesoldier said, dig everything. Last year the ground was hotter over on Brandy Rock Farm and bullets all read as Hot Rock, this year the ground was milder and for me all bullets read in the 20's and the VDI bounced around.

Last year the ground ran in the 70's & 80's, and you'll find you won't be able to keep the machine stable if you run the gain too high - preset was about the norm last year. This year, with the exception of one field I was in, everything was in the low to mid-60's, and the machine would tolerate + gains and still be stable.

Here's the best advice I can offer - start out by digging absolutely every beep, click and nulled threshold and take note what you heard & what VDI you got versus what you found. Then you can start to cherrypick a little if you care to. But remember, you can never be sure you aren't passing up one of those "finds of a lifetime" if you cherrypick......especially in hot ground. And listen for those faint deep signals!

Mode - Relic
Trigger - center
Disc. - 2
Threshold - 1:00
Track - Ground
Coil - 6x10DD

I'm not from VA, so I had a difficult time initially understanding my MXT the first day. I did eventually get the hang of it and I wish I did what John and Horsesoldier said by digging every little sound at first. I didn't do that, so I can just imagine what I may have passed over. :rage:

When you kept your coil slightly higher off the ground, did you find that you had any loss of depth? I noticed other doing that as well, but I would think there would be some loss of depth in doing that. But as I mentioned in another post, I'm not from VA, so I'm not used to working that type of ground.

That's why I ran the gain wide open. I think that any depth loss would have been compensated for by increasing the gain. Also reducing the masking caused by the minerals in the soil increased the clarity of the signals. Although we've all been programmed to think in terms of depth, when digging in that kind of environment, depth is realitive. In other words, does the masking cause you not to dig a good target? I feel confident based on the varying degrees of target depth that rasing the coil improved performance. It took me a good part of the first day to realize that. Hope this helps.

...with the SAT set in the HyperSAT area. Gain was set to preset. With the IRON Target readout along with the VDI I had more confidence that if I got a VDI reading of around 50 and a IRON Target percentage of less than 50%, it was a good indicator that the target would be a bullet.

My wife and I were able to dig 18 bullets between the two of us.
