Did a search and didn't find EXCAL VS EXCAL II

If anyone can enlighten me that has had success with either, I would love to hear your views. What makes the II different from a standard Excal? Is there any improvements in depth? Is it better at discriminating targets? Has the battery life been improved? Also has anyone used it hipped mounted with a straight shaft (either unit), and did you encounter any malfunctions? I've used the Garrett Infinium which is an excellent machine, but can deafin your senses if your in any populated or trashy areas. So I've been looking in another direction (Tesoros Sandshark, Whites PI dual). Although it's not a Pulse Inductive unit I still wanted to get your opinions. Thanks, RickyD

I was a Tesoro guy, and I bought an Excalibur II this spring. I have never been more impressed by a machine. I have detected for 25 years and have had several detectors 20 or so. Most Tesoro, a few Garretts.
I was looking to replace my Tigershark and talked to my local dealer. I have read about ML Excal and was talked into it and I had a couple of friends who swore by them. It was about $400+ more than I wanted to pay plus the extras I got with it.
It paid for itself in just a couple of months, went to places, fields and playgrounds that I and countless people have hunted before. I dug up rings, chains and money deeper than I have before. When I first got it I went to my favorite beach areas and intentionally detected after someone else had been there. I found money and jewelry they left in the ground. It took me a while and a lot of experimentation to become comfortable with this machine.I use it almost everyday, I have had no problems with the knobs or the battery pack. I charge it daily and it lasts all day. I have only had it for 6 months or so, I'm very happy so far and I have used it more than the average bear. I did get new headphones, Gray Ghosts and a Babb straight shaft.
I have found more this summer on the beach than I have in years past. I have found 20 pieces of Jewelry (one ring was a very large diamond) and over $300 in cash. Plus it makes me look sexier than I was before.
I don't know about the 800 or 1000 but my friends have both and they won't buy a new one. I have been so impressed I have purchased another for my brother and a Explorer SE for my wife (really for me but she thinks it's hers)
Hope this helps,
Eric

Thank You Eric! I don't know if you helped RickyD, but you sure helped me. I have been reading everything I can find on the EXCAL II and thought it was more that I wanted to spend. I have an old ML XS and it has served me well. Money well spent to catch up on techology. Thanks again......

[size=medium]I don't know for sure but will try to answer you questions. I believe the only difference between the EXCAL & EXCAL II is ,

EXCAL II has a green Decal on the case
EXCAL II has the Yellow Head Phones
EXCAL II has a LIGHTER 10.5 " coil
EXCAL II has a different BATTERY PACK ......NIHM vs NI-CAD ..... I THINK it just lasts longer???

From what I have researched they have the same depth same knobs same every thing otherwise...
Most people are doing the same mods to both...Gray Ghost headphones and mounting them on straight shafts...

EXPERTS... IF I am wrong please correct me !!!!!!!!

i got my excal 2 couple months ago,and i just love it.
so far i have found 12 gold rings
payed for it self allready
everyone in h20 around here ive seen have excal 1 leave me plenty
can go right behind them and still find stuff
had excal 1 and i think the 2 goes deeper
i go out up too my neck and sometimes i have to stop digging
because i cant dig deep enough
stopped digging couple times (killed me to stop)
went out the other day,got deep beep, started to quit.
told my self not to stop, kept digging,(bammm)
after bounceing around on my scoop for about 20 minutes
finallya big white and yellow gold mens wedding band(sweet)
would not trade my new friend for any other metal detector!
straight shaft is the ticket, its a must for me.
i always rinse off, wipe off, do not bang or drop my detector.
while rinseing off i like to turn knobs, because i set to same settings all time
after i find everything i will reveal my settings.(just kidding)
hope these words help someone.
i have detecting on land for 15 years,2 years in water .
went from finding civil war items, too water because of gold
chains,rings,braclets,coins,crosses.
what a way for me to relax,if i find something its a blessing,
if not i always have fun.
good luck to all
richard
