Did a little digging today...

My MXT with the 12X15 SEF coil was a button magnet today!! Pulled out 8 buttons, 1 Conn. copper (toasted), 1888 IH, and a couple whatzit's. This spot has been pounded for a longggggg time, but I went slow and listen in between the iron signals ( even with this big coil you can separate GREAT!!). i took this coil in a trash area last week ( same place) and still pulled out stuff. I will admit it's noises, but it works.

Wonderful finds! :surprised: I love to see the Indian cents come out and you found a lot of old buttons also. Now for the other coin/token. Do you happen to know the VDI? It sure looks like an old coin. Can you wash it with water and take a picture of each side? Do not scrub it, please. I would love to see it then. Maybe you can read what it say with a magnifier. We've always got a jewelers loupe around for times like this. HH and keep us posted, Nancy

It looks like you're definitely meeting with success.

Nancy,
This is the best it gets with worn out coppers like this. The back is totally gone as for any images. What I do to get at least a little image is! AND THIS IS NOT RECOMMENDED!!! Take a very wet piece of emery cloth and rub gently in about 5 second rubs and check after each rubbing. These coins are toasted to start with so you can not damage them any more than they are all ready. As for the VDI they come in between 84 and 87 on the MXT.

If you look you can see the bust facing left and there are a few letters to the right of it witch was enough to tell me it was a Conn. Copper.

Hey, you tried and I thank you for that. Have you ever used 3 in One oil? [attachment 160361 3inOneOil.jpg] It's just not oil, but it cleans also. I don't recommend this on "good" coins, but it does bring out the detail on old coins, buttons, etc. that have no great value. Joe, it's still a very interesting find. Thanks so much, Nancy
