Diamonds and Gold

Well this morning it was about 30 degrees and windy when I started swinging my MXT with my favorite 6" DD Excelerator searchcoil. This was my first hunt of 2008 and though it only lasted about 45 minutes I scored a very nice 14K Gold and Diamond ring. Even though the hunt was short it felt good to get out of the house after an exceptionally long winter. HH Dennis in Idaho

Very nice first of the year find Dennis. Way to go!!!!! That's a beautiful style too. Glad you could get out and do some hunting. You're off to a great start!!!!!! :) Wonderful pictures...thanks for sharing. Nancy

Dennis, can you tell us what the VID read on that find? I'm doing quite well in the coin and pulltab department, but poorly on jewelry. Congrats on a very nice find!

I can. It was a solid 10-12 reading. I can remember because I did not dig a lot of targets that day. Keep digging those pull tabs... HH Dennis in Idaho

Thanks Dennis! I'll keep digging those p-tabs..clever little devils.

I don't have a clue. I have never sold any of the diamonds rings that I have found. I guess a Jeweler would have the answer. I am sure that the guys who send all their gold in for refining have had a jeweler remove the stones. Maybe a jeweler buys the stones. If you find out let me know. HH Dennis in Idaho

There are companies on the web that buy gold jewelry and for a fee will remove the stones (10.00 a stone) and return them to you. It may not be worth removing cheap stones. If they are large diamonds you could get a local jeweler to remove but you would probably have to get them graded and certified before you could sell them. One note don't sell your gold locally search the web for a good scrap buyer I have found local dealers are only giving half (at best) the spot value.

Thanks for the info Jim HH Dennis in Idaho
