"High grade partial thickness tear of the proximal plantar aponeurosis." Anyone out there with similar problem - plantar fascitis??????
Maybe that's why normal activity such as walking, metal detecting on the beach and uneven ground, roller blading and just daily life kill me by the end of the day. <img src="/metal/html/cry.gif" border=0 width=40 height=15 alt=":cry"> <img src="/metal/html/cry.gif" border=0 width=40 height=15 alt=":cry"> <img src="/metal/html/cry.gif" border=0 width=40 height=15 alt=":cry">

Had the same thing and no clue how it happened. Very painful especially right after getting out of bed. No instant fix either, took about 6 months to completely get over it. Doc gave me a couple of shots of cortisone and orthotics in shoes. Orthotics was the best thing. Good Luck

Thanks Chuck,
Anything to get better so I can find all those treasures!!!!

It's an inflammation of the fascia (the membrane that covers the muscle). Anti-inflammatory drugs like Motrin and Naprosyn help most people. I've had it a few times myself. The first thing the docs tell you to do is to get new shoes and when you do, take out the factory insoles and buy your own. Steroid injections are indicated for severe cases. Stretching and ice are helpful too. Good luck with it. Don't worry, it's not permanent.

I have had it occassionally from being on my feet to long, as soon as I start to feel it, I start stretching exercises. Phyical therapist can show you the correct way stretch that muscle.

The cause is usually a combination of 3 things,Bad shoes,Jumping from a ladder or porch, etc and/or a little over weight... I did all 3..If your foot feels like someone slapped it on the bottom with a 2x4 when it first hits the ground in the morning then you've got Plantar Facitis...The quick cure..Sleep with a boot on the bad foot..keep it at a little less than 90 degrees and tape or wrap it so it will be frozen it that position each night.. The pain is you tearing the tissues loose each morning after they had begun healing back each night when your foot was in a relaxed straight position..The best shoes are Merrell if you want to get over it sooner..Merrell's come with the kind of insert you need.. Hope your better soon....BigDave

Good arch supports...not the soft foam inserts but the hard ARCH supports....Spenco brand is what I believe my foot Dr recommended....3/4 arch supports. Find a set that helps and buy multiple pairs....put in all shoes...Also good cushiony socks like Thorlo brand helps too....get some good tennis shoes that fit well and remove the footbed...insert the Arch supports.
For the morning "getting out of bed pain", i was told to sit in a chair and stretch the arches by rolling a tennis ball under my foot gently...helped some, but the anti-inflamatory ibuprofen and the arch supports/socks helped the most....took about 6 months to correct the problem.

I switched from wearing "flat" boat shoes (20 + years) to the top of the line New Balance Running shoe. Foot (and related leg/back problem) gone! ("knock on wood"!)

There is a good discussion with links to products at www.heelspurs.com.

I went to an old foot Doc who gave me 5 Cortizone shots in the heel over 5 weeks. Extreme pain. He said he can not do any more - Go find another Doc.

So I went to a modern foot specialist who prescribed custom inserts. the heel pain went away in a short while. No problems since but can not leave out inserts more than three days or you will have pain back.
I even wear them in my cold water chest waders. <img src="/metal/html/clap.gif" border=0 width=20 height=30 alt=":clap">

My wife had/has foot problems for years. She has gone from shoe inserts to full blown braces. Some to wear during the day, some to wear during the night.
As soon as the pain goes away she stops wearing the appliance. As a result (my opinion) she has been battling this problem for years.
Follow the doctor's advice and don't stop when it feels better unless your doctor says so.
Do what is best for the long haul and you'll be happy you did.
Good luck,
Lee - MI
