Diablo Sand Scoop

[sup]As one of the fortunate few who have been allowed to torture test the Diablo in several versions I can assure you that it isn't in production at this time.[/sup]

Production may occur in the future, but many factors are involved and not a small amount of cash outlay.

"Stay tuned" is the best advice I can offer you at the moment,

For those that are not familiar with Diablo, a non welded exotic mixed metal scoop, lighter then any other. Think it is 13.5 long and 7.5 wide and weights in with handle at 3 pounds 11 oz, if I remember correct. Picture compared to the Famous Stavrs Scoop. Lighter and bigger

Its funny how the Diablo keeps popping up on the DB topics every few months. I looked into this a year ago and did find a mfg who would make a similar (almost identical) titanium scoop for a mere $1k. Anyhow have money to burn? lol

That's the Beauty of Diablo, No welds, the metal is expensive, cost me 375 for two blanks, but that is water jetted bent and ready. Welding Ti is labor intense requiring special equipment, so that cost you would not see with Diablo. A Plus also, Diablo can use super strong Aluminum (2024), it is stronger then 304 SS, you won't see any other scoops made of (2024) because you can't weld it and maintain the strength of the metal and it is 66% lighter. Ask Lew how well his does in the rocks of Conn.....Once you have used a scoop that is super lite and as strong as steel your spoiled.....and then nothing else can compare.

After years of using my 12Lb, all welded stainless, home-built "Poor Man's Backhoe"

I was blessed with the chance to use an aluminum Diablo and haven't used the "Hoes" since!!

I've hammered three generations of Diablo in some of the baddest digging around and have been very happy with the extra couple of hours this 72 year old hunter can now hunt!

In my opinion, after hundreds of hours of Diablo hunting, its performance is second to none!

The one I am using now, a stainless version, has recovered 4485 targets in 393.5 hours of hunting since 4-12-12!! (11 plus targets per hour of water hunting!!)

Cupajo

Cupajo you and old beechnut are some good sales people. If it works, it works and that's all that counts. If I got out 2-3 times a week, I might give up the sunspot, but I've only hit the river once in 8 weeks and enjoyed it and I know that somebody who gets out a lot and especially at the ocean will appreciate the combination of light weight and strength.

Can't sell something that isn't in production Fongu, but that isn't as important as letting hunters know that there are other very fine designs out there that work beautifully!!

Joe and I have been given a rare opportunity to use a digger few have even seen and fewer have used.

We then passed on what we experienced to our fellow hunters.

Regards,

CJ

I read it wasn't for sale, Cupajo. But, if it was in production, your and old beechnut's experience with it would move a lot of scoops.
You can never get enough unbiased information. Thanks.

Thanks fongu, I love my Diablo for the Ocean but when I hunt the Bay the old Miller is my only choice, nothing can replace the old guy for me, He is heavy and built like a tank, I would call it the CZ20 of scoops.

One Amazing scoop that never made it into production. I had two, one has now broke and still using the other..it's titanium . Have now got the 720 as a back up...both millers have broke also but the old "Diablo" is still holding.

I have the pleasure of owning the latest version of the 2024 aluminum / stainless steel diablo with a carbon fiber handle. I also own one of the very first SS versions of the scoop.
There is a world of difference. The SS back plate is held in the skin with tabs rather than welds. The newest version has mini tabs in the original tabs. I have used this scoop for one full year and can compare it's durability to any of the other Stavr and SunSpot scoops I own. It digs the bay and the beach for me and I rarely use any of my other scoops now.
As for production and sales, we will just have to wait and see.

Nice looking scoop. I'll stick with my Sunspot scoop, I'll wear out before it does.

I agree with you. I fresh water hunt. I have a Sunspot scoop with original wooden handle. I water hunt a lot during the summer. I do use that Thompsom water seal on my handle a lot. It is still very strong. Never had a problem with handle or scoop. The only thing I wish is I would like the smaller scoop... KEN
