Id give it an 8 Keith. You have to remember its not a PI or water machine so dont get the box wet. However, I think its versitility makes it one of the best overall machines on the market. You can adabt it to just about any detecting situation. If you plan on just beach detecting then look more serious at the water proof machines for the money.
