Dfx vs. Xlt

I am about to buy a new detector im thinking either an xlt or a dfx. My father had an xlt, i used it a bit and liked it. Is it worth spending the extra couple hundred bucks more and getting the dfx or should i just go with the xlt?

If you plan on hunting salt water beaches at all...the dual frequency will take care of the falsing caused by the salt mineralization.... If you will never see salt water...the xlt...good luck!

Greg is correct......There both good detectors.

[size=medium]I prefer to have better control over the Pre-Amp Gain and less confusing options, and having had several of each model (more XLT's), I know that XLT has ALWAYS served my needs well, and caused me less frustrations.

PS: Which ever you pick, make sure you also purchase a good smaller coil (a 5.3 Eclipse or 5.3 BullsEye, depending on the detector) and a quality set of headphones (if you don't already have them). For what it's worth, I use the Killer B 'Wasp' and SunRay Pro Gold (essentially the same headphones).

Thanks for Your help guys, I ended up going with the DFX, I think i got a pretty good price so if i dont like it i can sell it on ebay and go back to the xlt.I did like the xlt but then again its the only detector i ever used. My father had bought it off a guy he worked with and never used it so i borrowed it and used it for a while found some pretty good stuff, some of the things im still not sure what to make of. Anyway my father moved from CT. to Ca. last year and took the xlt with him and i have been gettin the itch ever since. I always drive by spots that i know will be, good but no detector. So now i will be back in action. Hopefully find some goodies to post on this site!

Congratulations on your new DFX. Be sure to stop in at the DFX Classroom Forum.

Now if you just take it slowly everything will fall into place. Don't assume the DFX is like the XLT. You will need to start fresh. A percentage of people who don't like the DFX coming from the XLT never really understand that they are different.
