dfx vs xlt

Just wondering what is the big difference between the xlt and the dfx.
What can or does the dfx do in comparison or is there a comparison?

eaglehead,

I have a lot of hours on both and if I could I would have both in my closet, I like the XLT because it is a tried and true performer, I can adjust it for most sites that I run into. The DFX is one of the fastest ID detectors I have used and I always come back with a lot of coins, after a humt. You can not go wrong with either machine, as long as you put the time in to learn the machine. Right now I use a Whites Classic IDX, with Mr. Bills mods, with different coils, a Compass Coin Scanner Pro, for high rusty iron sites, and a Pioneer 505 for a back up. For me this will GET ER DONE, I have friends that use different detectors and they are happy with what they use. The most important thing is to pick your detector of choice and put the coil to the soil and dig it up, have fun and enjoy.

The biggest difference for me was the speed of response. The DFX runs ultra "crisp" and the XLT was slower. When I first used my DFX E series, my hunting buddy was still stomping me on depth and finds, with his XLT. Some learning time changed all that and the DFX was definitely worth the upgrade . The one thing that always amazed me... to hear reports that the DFX was not a deep machine? Never had a problem on getting almost all of the stuff that was at it's deepest. I wondered (once I heard these reports) and took PI's to the same dirt. Gridded, cross swept and dug everything. Found low conductors and garbage mostly. Guess the big DD's added a little more depth but the speed, accuracy, w/ way better than decent depth, has kept me enjoying it. Learning the V3 now and this new interface is spoiling me badly. At this point of learning though, the DFX (and XLT) would do me well. Already know 'em and the DFX (especially) is just plain FAST!

The processor speed of the DFX is twice as fast as the SLT. The LCD is also of a newer type that operates well in a wider temperature range. The DFX operates with two frequencies vs. the single frequency of the XLT. There are some differences in the menu items, but nothing too difficult. Other than those items, they are about the same.
I have the DFX and XLT. I much prefer the DFX over the XLT for general detecting, but the largest coil I have for the DFX is the DD 1400 and the XLT has the Blue Max 1500. In normal soil, the concentrically wound 1500 is going to go deeper than the elliptically wound DD1400.
