dfx vs se testing/jewelry

Well first the reminder is for this round of tests I was using the smaller ML 8" coil....against the 950 dfx stock coil...as in the first group of tests...

small gold ring (childs/baby) dfx 4", se 4 1/2", silver heart pendant both 7 1/2", large gold ring both 8", small gold ring both 7 1/2", large silver ring both 7 1/2".

Larger items... stapler appx 6 inches long, dfx 9 1/2", se 13", quarter sized button dfx 7 1/2", se 8".

Notes...the dfx was very unstable at times..with numbers and bars jumping across the screen from apparent interference...the se was completely stable during all testing in exact conditions.

That ends my basic air tests for now...thanks for all the positive mail and feedback as well as the negative.... Will run more tests when I learn the se and its controls.

Hey, Greg

I also came from the White's world ( Eagle II ) to XS now SE.

While you are testing try putting a nail or two over the top of your test subject and see if they show up accurate.

I have done a lot of testing too. Here is one for you to try. One 7oz. buck shot, push pin, very light neckless chain. With my Eagle II in Prospecting mode it will pick it up, it will not with my SE in All metal. Just curious will the DFX pick it up? I love both detectors. Each has their place.

of their ability. FBS technology is designed to perform best in compacted ground conditions. Air testing is really only an asset to become familiar with the different tones, position and or numbers on the screen. This is why you sometimes lose a signal after digging a pile of dirt out of the hole with an explorer. Once the ground thaws and you get out there you will give it the real test, hang on Gregg, spring is coming!

Thanks I am ready need the ground to thaw... But you are right...I did start to notice the different tones already.

Funny you mentioned that Gary...have not tested any chains yet...but last year the few i did find were junk and surface finds that gave a broken signal very low on the dfx.... I have heard several different detectors have trouble picking up the chains.... Hey now nobody needs to post a 20 oz. gold chain I know some find them. I did try to open up my disc. last year at the end and recovered a samall child's gold ring... one I normally would of missed...

One needs to go to the factory pre set of coins, open menu (DISC) and put a check on the jewelry to except, then you will pick up the Jewelry such as small GOLD CHAINS!!!

Good Hunting!

GaryL .... :minelab::detecting: SE

All thumbs still with se, dfx I can figure out......thanks....I think you mean accept though....except would mean everything but....

I dont necessarily agree that the Explorers dont air test well. In fact i think it was Andy Sisbach who wrote "since the Explorer does not attempt to compensate for the affect of mineralization, target ID results obtained in air tests will mirror the results obtained in the field." It has a lot to do with how it measures the induced voltage output over a high and low duration to produce its ground balance and identify targets.

I agree the Explorer and Sov both airtest pretty good and close to in ground performance.

What Jeff and Maria mentioned, I think alot of that is the target falling deeper down in the hole or getting turned on edge during retrieval. Ive also read they dont do well in fresh plowed fields and honestly Ive never hunted those so I cant comment on them but on the beach in loose dry sand they get great depth, no problem with loose soil there
