DFX scores 1854 Seated Dime

Ohio Digger

New member
Tried a park I've been to before with some history but just not in a good part of town. One gentleman asked if I was looking for gold and I told him I can't find anything but junk (then got back in my car and left). I just don't like being in that area by myself without having eyes in the back of my head.

So off I went to my usual old park. Figured I'd try an area I hadn't been to. As soon as I started swinging and digging I realized this area had been backfilled with gravel and a very thin top layer of fill dirt (maybe 1"). I noticed a path off to the one side and decided to follow it. The path led down to the main creek that runs through the park. I swung along the creek for a little while but couldn't get anything solid so I went up to one of the trees about 30' from the creek edge. I started going around the tree one way and said to myself this is a waste of time, this isn't even the oldest section of the park. But I distinctly remember telling myself just finish swinging around this tree and I'll look down the creek further. I get to just about finishing a full circle around the tree when I get a pretty solid dime signal. It was only about 6" off the base of the tree. The tree wasn't even that large. I dug for a few minutes but the signal was right underneathe a small root. I was being kind of hasty because I figured it was going to be a junk clad since it wasn't that deep, maybe 4-5". When I finally got it out it didn't even look to be silver. As I looked a little closer I realized I knicked the side of it and that it was indeed silver. I took it down to the creek hoping for an old Barber dime. I just about fell in the creek when I saw it was a Seated. As I was leaving I also found a toasted 1929 wheatie that I could barely make the date out on. Tonight I swung in my front yard for the first time and picked up 2 more wheats, a 1935 and a 1910 (my house was built in 1943). I have power lines and the phone line run right between the houses and I was getting a lot of EMI. I only searched the front yard for about 30 minutes. I'm sure there's more out there.

That is just awesome!
Congratulations on the seated, it looks great!
Yano what they say: Where there's wheat there's silver! :detecting:

Ytown. You?

Nice job on the seated! Your story proves one thing: we will never know where the next great find will come from. I hope you can get back there and give it another good combing. Be safe - Jim
