DFX not grounding

Hi Everybody,
I have used my DFX at the beach once this year and it would ground at the hip but not when I lower it to the sand. I have it set on beach mode and sometimes coin and jewelry mode. Anybody have any ideas. It just doesn't seem to find anything when it doesn't ground right. Thanks to anyone who can help me.

Dusty,

Barring some internal defect, you are fortunate the DFX will not ground. It simply means there isn't sufficient minerals in the ground you are working in to warrant adjustment. The detector will simply go to default levels which are perfectly acceptable and you should achieve maximum depth. Two easy ways to check if your detector is operating properly is to simply take it away from a beach and try the process there, if it grounds then the machine is working properly. Another way to check if it's not grounding is to simply hit the pinpoint trigger while the coil is hip level and bring it to the ground while there is no metal present, if the threshold is solid then there is a lack of ground mineralization. Many beaches (especially freshwater) will exibit low mineralization concentration.

Also, simply place a sample target a few inches under the sand, if the machine picks it up... everything is working fine. If not, then you may have a bad ground circuit, though not likely.

Hope this helps,

Thanks Art. It works and grounds fine it was just that i was doing saltwater beaches and was scratching my head knowing the mineralization that they have. I don't have any trouble picking objects up so I won't worry to much about it. Like i said before I went from a 4000D to the DFX and I used the 4000D for 20 years til it took a dump, it was a sad day when that happened lol. Anyway thanks again and have a great weekend.
