dfx.....how deep on coins

The dfx sounds like an interesting detector,if you have used one how deep are you finding coins......thanks for info......hh.....Dan

You will get all kinds of answers because of different ground condition, users ability, coil choice, size of the target and so forth. In my black mineralized ground about 6-7 inches were the norm for dimes, but on sandy beaches, I was digging quarters 12-14 inches. Having the ability to know what a deep target sounds like will add a couple more inches after the VDI stops giving a solid ID on targets.

Hey Dan. Realistically I am averaging 4"-6" for most of my coins. Larger objects I find deeper- maybe 8"-9". I primarily use a SEF 8x6 coil which I feel is being utilized to about it's fullest depth. Haven't noticed much, if any, difference when I put a larger coil on, even though I know I should get more depth with a larger coil. This is my first season hunting and the DFX is my third detector purchased and first detector I grab when I go hunting. Hope this opinion helps you. HH. Matt

Thanks Larry and Matt for the info.....maybe more info from others also.......hh......Dan

For me the DFX couldn't detect a dime more than 6" This was an Ebay purchase and I read Eric Fosters book. I did however find my firs gold ring with it and V nickles. It seemed to go deeper in single frequencies Which I really didn't like the concept of. I loved the "concept" of ther DFX but in the field it wasn't for me.

I have been using the DFX since it first came out and I wouldn't trade it for any other machine. I also use the Bigfoot coil with it as well. As for depth, like most others were posting it depends on a lot of factors, but I have pulled quarters out 11" deep. I also found a coffee can full of silver coins at 28" with my Bigfoot coil. The DFX is an excellent machine. You can tweak the factory settings and get even greater depth.

Wow....Thanks for the info I.T.H.........hh.....Dan

Hello .my name is Norm....I have a DFX pro I also live on the treasure coast of Florida...I am lucky if my DFX finds anything below 3" ...I recently returned it to Whites for a checkup...I have to say that I own 3 of these ..I would not trade for any other...It is most likely my fault, may be that I'm not getting the settings right........I have found some interesting coins from Spanish ships........good to read a blessing from you folks...I to would like to add my amen.....to your blessing....................Norm from Sebastian,Fl.

Thanks Norm....good to hear from the treasure coast.....I'm gonna make my way down there soon I hope,my wife and I may go camping in the area ......Good luck God Bless......Dan

IdahoTreasureHunter,

I sent you a message was going to check and see if you had gotten it...

boxofchocolates,

Good luck and have fun in FL!!

Yep, got your email and responded. I wonder if there is a way to get an email letting you know you have a message in your inbox?

I get dimes at 7-9 and quarters at 12 in. But I am hunting pure white sand beaches in Fl. I got an 18 in Excellerator for it and I sure don't miss much...

Here in southwest Kansas we have fairly mild soil. I was pulling coins from our city park at 8-10" on a regular basis. I have used the DFX for 7 years so I am pretty familiar with it and that helps a lot. I used the 6x10 DD.

When I first started runnng a DFX, my XLT's performance was much much better. I decided to use just my DFX to force myself to learn it and never went back. Acquaintances would be having a hard time getting depth and it was because they didn't stray to far from factory settings.( Pre-Amp Gain, filter choice, and sweep speed choice is crucial to depth and DO explore single frequency use.......works best at some spots.) Dimes and pennies at 9" were the max norm and record for a quarter was 13". Use Tone ID and don't expect deep signals to have more than 30% "good" VDI's. (That's when you are in the groove.) Nice box.

Certainly your ground mineralization, expertise of the operator, coils used all come in to play..Certainly in the ballpark with 8-10 inch coins but some gurus have the knack and just go a little deeper..Had a hunting buddy that used an XLT for years and saw him dig some 12 inch plus coins but an 8 or 9 inch coin was tops for me. By the way he was a natural fast swinger and I am a slow swinger so a CZ or Explorer was more my style when I traveled and hit real old areas....Whites just seem to go deeper for the accelerated swinger...

Thanks to all for the info .....hh......God Bless.........Dan
