DFX Ground Balance Question.

Chadd

New member
I have had my eye out for a good used DFX for quite a while and finally come across one at a good price.

One question I have though is that when ground balancing how do you know if there is any metal in the ground when you ground balance it at startup? Other detectors I have you put them in all metal mode sweep the ground then ground balance. What is the best practice for the DFX as far as this goes?

Also the one I picked came with the 950 coil and a D2 coil are there any times that I wouldn't want to use the D2 on it? I never use my concentric coil on my other machine since I got a DD.

Thanks,
Chadd

Since the GB occurs at start up, go ahead and pick a spot you think is free of metal and balance. If there is metal there, a multi-note tone will play, letting you know you need a different spot. However, I always sweep that spot in all metal after the GB anyway, just to be sure.
My 950 is brand new because I have a D2 as well. You're in good shape. Congratulations on your "new to you" detector!

It is always good practice to GB twice anyway with the DFX. I often bypassed the automated GB with a trigger pull after you turn it on, it goes to your last settings including the GB before you shut down and comes in handy when you come back and hunt the same place you hunted last time. In my ground, I locked the tracking and did a manual GB about every half hour whether it had drifted or not just out of habit.
