DFX First day out!!!

I am new to the MDing world. I just bought a DFX and went out today, and it was so fun. I found a 1920's dime and some not so old pennies. I used the "JEWELRY/BEACH" mode because it had the variable pitch sounds. I threw a quarter from my pocket just to test the machine out and I would get pretty high readings, but then my gold ring was in the 50's range I would notice 50-85+ range, sometimes I would get a beer tab at that high range too. I was defiantly able to pinpoint my target and get very accurate depth, but it was very hard to determine what was dig gable. I seemed that "COIN" mode was mono tone. I found copper wire, sprinkler heads etc...My wife and I had fun though. We spent some time at a couple local parks here in Everett, WA. I am really excited to hunt with some pros. I have lots of learning to do.

Thanks

Dave

Dave Now go buy Jeff Foster book Digging Deeper with the DFX, its the Bible of the DFX, - I use the coins program and the turn on everything I need , I'm fairly new too but its addicting, and I find myself looking at the world in a whole different way now, you'll have coins and surprise laying everywhere soon. Every dig is an adventure? Jeff

Sounds like you had fun...the c/j mode will not give you a high level of discrimination...but works well in tot lots and areas relatively free of trash. You mentioned the coin mode...to turn on tone id just like you had in the c/j mode do this...hit menu...arrow down to pro options hit enter...select audio...arrow down to tone id...hit enter...switches to tone id on (you will see check mark jump into the yes or on box. Simply squeeze in trigger and away you go! This will be good for high trash parks...there are also pro programs for hi trash...eeprom hi trash also works well you can also turn the tone id on the same way... With the coin mode you will discriminate out more...but in very trashy areas...you will find the c/j mode almost unusable...Good luck!:detecting:
