DFX coils

I am thinking about replacing my factory coil on my DFX with either a 10'd2 or the super 12 mostly will be using it in corn fields and what type of depth and sensitivity could i expect with both thanks

Pinpointing for me is a snap with the D 2 coil, without having to go into pinpoint mode. But I couldn't say for sure that the D 2 gets as much depth as the 12". I live in Cent.Ill. and many farmers here leave the stalks (which they call trash) on top of the soil all winter before discing them under before planting. Or they just plant without discing or chisel plowing (no till). This would make swinging the larger coil tougher. Last I heard most corn is planted in 30 inch rows, perhaps narrower now. My buddy likes hunting soybean fields better. Walking is easier. If your trying to find where old farm houses once stood, and no out buildings remain gauge the distance from the road, by comparing other farm houses on that road. And look for the high spots, or evergreens.

I own and use both but prefer the D 2 because of the pinpointing.

Good luck, Dave

The biggest factor is your ground mineralization. With high mineralization, the D2 should work better and in medium to low mineralization, a concentric coil like the Super 12 will be better at depth. For seperation, the DD coils win hands down. For pinpointing some people like the concentric coils better, while other don't have any problem with the DD''s...

CAN I USE A HOTHEAD COIL ON MY DFX

Yes, they make a hothead for the DFX/MXT, and it will work, however the new 300 series 12" coil from Whites has a solid coil cover avallable for about $14. The hotheads are alright, but if you hunt with anyone else with a DFX or MXT it will drive them CRAZY!!!!!!!!!

I used the 10X12 on the DFX and V3 and have been very pleased with it.

Does anybody have any experience with the DFX and the d2 or the 12" ltd coils in colorado or highly mineral soils?
