DFX 300

I bought my first machine, A Whites DFX 300! I have been reading like crazy and still have no clue on how to use it properly! I am in a metal detecting club and most of the members are using Minelab and water machines! Any thoughts on how I should get more familiar with my investment!!!

Lots of field time. Dig most targets >0 VDI or even <0 VDI until you get a feel for what the machine is telling you. Tweak settings one at a time until you thoroughly understand what they are changing. Buy, read, and reread multiple times Jeff Foster's book "Digging Deeper With The DFX". Watch all DFX instructional videos on Youtube or elsewhere. I've had my DFX for about 6 months and I believe I have only unlocked about 25% of its full potential. It is a more advanced machine and you may miss good targets unless you dig everything at first.

Hi Mike, got an Eagle Spectrum a few days ago, realize not the same machine, But what helped me is I found a program for the machine and programmed one of my custom settings with it. The program came with step by step instructions. But what it did do, even if I do not use the program is that by doing this I went thru every step of the process and realized all the different settings. Until I did that I didn't know half the stuff even existed in there. Hope this helps a little bit.

Bought mine two years ago, read all of the book, did the videos, but the best help i got was from the dfx forums. The best move was to change my coil to a 6 inch double D excellerator, this will lose depth, but help you to discriminate your targets better, teaching you what is trash and was is not ,by tones.spot on for pinpointing your targets.try these settings on all of your hunts regardless if you are looking for coins ,jewelry,or relics.always air and ground balance when you arrive where you are going to hunt. After ground balancing, always go to coin and jewelry setting to hunt.then press menu,go to custom settings,I increase the target volume, increase yours to your liking, arrow down to ac,hit enter and arrow up to set at 72 ,arrow down to dchit enter and arrow up to,set at 33,just a note after settings hit enter after each setting and then menu before you arrow down. arrow down three times go to audio, hit enter, arrow down three times you will be on vco hit enter, this helps toy to pinpoint your targets, then arrow down almost to the end to pre-amp gain, hit enter and increase to 3,pull trigger and you are ready to hunt.Whites have posted six of my finds, the best a 14 k mens yellow gold ring with 3 diamons ,a carat and a half.appraised at $6000.00,many other gold finds 20 gold rings and 30 plus sterling rings, 100 plus silver coins and lots of great relics.yes, some will be naysayers, but the depth you lose, will get the juces flowing when you start finding those dropped coins, then learn to slow way down for those silver coins and learn where the jewelry comes in on the vdi screen, always watch the vdi screen and learn always guess what you are going to dig by the vdi reading and see how close you getwhen you do dig.you will always be fooled, but the less i am fooled, the better i am learning my DFX and the sounds.the key to all this is the small coil.
good hunting

I've had one for a while its a great machine decent depth. So far I've found a bunch of clad and a fat gold men's wedding band. Good battery life and awesome signagraph I'd Get some books on it. For now bump up gain to 3 and ac to around 72 and dc to like 40 change sweep speed to 38 and other swing speed forgot name to 18 . Learn your signal graph I'd . These DXFs are ring monsters and one hell of a coin machine.

i have had mine a while now. I like larry's program that is what I started with and still run most the time. I also agree get the books and read and reread. I am more of a hands on person so I would read and then go do some diggin and it seems to be helping me get alittle more out of my machine.
