FOUND 4PENNIES,,AN OLD TIE CLASP,,& SOMETHING ELSE ( DON'T KNOW WHAT IT CAN BE),, ANY WAY AFTER READING CODY'S MESSAGE ABOUT THE EXPII I HAVE DECIDED TO DIG ALMOST EVERYTHING..BUT THE FIRST THING I HAVE FOUND TO DO IS DIG TO A DEPTH OF 3 TO 4 INCHES THEN USE THE PINPOINT PROBE..YOU CAN SAVE YOUR SELF A LOT OF TIME THAT WAY...THE DEPTH GUAGE WORKS PRETTY GOOD..GOD'S BLESSINGS TO ALL,,, HENRY

Henry - Sounds like you are getting a good plan laid out. I have found the older I get the more targets I dig and the more goodies I am getting. The best discriminator is a shovel :) Steve i n so az

Yep, sure sounds like you're getting the hang of it! I've dug some gold at the beach and two chains that were very iffy, but worth a shot. Glad I did.

I'm messing with Cody's idea to lower the variability to get just 3 sounds... iron, nickel and silver and just use the digital to see what it might be. VERY interesting! Went back outside in the front yard for a wee bit and picked up another wheatie. I think there's two more silvers out there too but I can't get to them for all the roots from the trees that used to be in my front yard.

Can't wait to hit my church outside the old cemetary (and the 1827 Quaker house)!

That is a good way to learn what a machine is telling you. Back when I hunted a lot with my Whites machine I could tell by the tone whether a penny was an Indian head, wheat or memorial. Now I can't because I just don't get out very often so now I am starting over and doing the same thing, digging almost everything. Also, if you are after jewelry you have to dig it all because from what I've read is especially gold will usually be in the foil range.
