Deus GB

Low-Boy/LCPM

It seems on the deus I'm always having to GB to get the detector to quite down. Do all detectors have that happen. It seems on my racer once I GB I'm set even though I do GB every couple of hours. But the deus always seems to be up or down

I never have that issue Low Boy, but I have VERY mild soil. I run mine up to 8 points below actual GB sometimes when I am trying to squeeze that last ounce of performance out of the Deus. No way you can do that with even moderate mineralization or at iron infested sites. If your GB is that variable, you might have to run in Auto. If you don't want to run in Auto GB, maybe run it a few points higher than actual. That should help deal with some of the variability, quiet the machine down and allow you to have to adjust it less. The other thing to tinker with is Sensitivity. When I push the envelope on a low manual GB, I do have to back off on the Sensitivity or the Deus will complain loudly.

It tell you to pump the coil up and down until it reaches a good GB and if you get no bars meaning low or no minerals do you set the GB to 90 and leave it?

If you are using the Pumping method to GB, it will automatically set the ground balance for you where it needs to be. You wouldn't want to manually go in and set it to 90. You would be defeating the purpose of Pumping mode of GB.

What you are saying is correct. You can pump your coil to check the mineralization strength. If it is weak (no bars), you can Manually set your GB to 90 and pretty much forget about GB. For mild ground, 90 will give you a smooth ride and good performance. But if you are constantly having to adjust your GB to quiet it down, you got something going on with your soil or site conditions. If it is that variable, you should consider using the Tracking mode and Ground Notch features.

My version of this is to start off in Tracking Mode for a couple of feet it grabs a GB number for the ground then I switch over to manual and have it set to a reading that the unit divided was best. Then as I detect I keep an eye on the relation between the setting and the ground reading. Seems to work well.

I use manual starting at 90.......after 5 min I look at the GB top number and manually adjust to that number...works well

I also start off at 90 then keep a eye on the top right hand No and after a few minutes when its stabilized i then 'personally' adjust the GB to 3 numbers above what is shown in the top right of the screen and always keep a constant eye on that top right hand no,if it keeps altering then i still keep tweaking it at 3 above,

When i am on open ploughed and rolled fields and its been constant for some time and then it rises or falls by a fair amount then i have too think what has caused this ?? as usually these mineralised areas are man made from fire, kilns or that type of thing and a very good indication that these have had habitation or similar activity on the site, then go back and check the area or map it with the coil, using the GB figure at the top right hand side of the screen as a sort of 'Ground Radar' if you like.

Personally i dont take any notice of the TID on the screen as that can be flawed with information, but in my mind the GB figures are far more interesting and then let the audio do the rest, the GB figures and the audio are much more accurate at greater depth than any TID screen information.Of course we all use the Deus differently but for my open field sites the actual GB figures and audio is the winning keys for unlocking the Deus, although i do have one Deus setup using version 3.2 my preferred choice is version 2 on my other Deus and most folks dont use it,but for me i can fine tune it too my sites with a simpler audio rather than the brain sapping full tones audio.

Thats the beauty of the Deus its so flexible, but for me the top right hand No provides me with much more detail than the TID,but still keeping the 3 digits about what is shown, the Deus is mainly a audio machine and far more accurate at depth than what any TID screen can provide.

Why would you not want it on tracking? If that "tracks" the ground you are hunting and sets the GB to what it needs to be. Just asking. I haven't used my Deus very much.

They are going to fix tracking on the new software update.

The main reason is
Running tracking could "track" out small targets with multiple sweeps.

Yes tracking is good for clean areas not a lot of trash and or iron the more you sweep your coil over the target the tracking will lose the target...I think the update may add a new twist to that and help us use tracking more. Tracking is always looking at the ground and adjusting you GB. I seem to have to do a lot of manual GB while I'm hunting where on the racer it seems to lock in a lot better. Not sure if that is a problem. Also if you have just a couple of bars then you can leave it on 90 and not worry about it
