I have a question for those of you who are really seasoned with the Deus.
I've been detecting 8 to 11 kHz.
TX 2 (tried 1 and 3)
Disc 0.0
Sens: high enough for stability
5 tones
Reactivity: 0 (I find my detector goes deeper the less reactivity I use.)
Silencer: 2
Audio Response: 5
Notch: 97-99
9" coil that came with the detector.
My soil is pretty sandy with not much mineralization according to the right vertical bar.
When I get a hit around 87 or greater and it **appears** to be deep according to the small amount it shows upper right on the horseshoe and faint sound,
it turns out to be either a modern dime or quarter at only about 6 inches.
Now then, if the detector is just barely picking up coins at 6 inches, how the heck am I able to find any older coins at the 10 to 13 inch level?
Are my settings screwed up?
I can just **barely** hit a 9" penny in my test garden but am not sure I would dig such a hit in real-world detecting. It blends in a lot with the sounds of everything else.
Are most of you only getting about 6-7 inches? Or is there a better setup? Do I need the 11" coil?
Frustrated.
