DETEKNIX X-POINTER BATTERY LIFE?

Can anyone tell me how the battery life on the Deteknix Xpointer compare to other Pinpointers on the market?

I saw a YouTube Video where a demonstration was done with a voltage meter showed the Garrett Pro pulling a draw of 8.84 milliamps and the Deteknix Xpointer pulling a draw of 47 milliamps.

So assuming that this was an accurate test, how would that effect the life of the battery one over the other pinpointers in total operating time?

The Deteknix Xpointer has a brighter light than some, would that account for that much more milliamp draw?

Does the Deteknix Xpointer or any Pinpointed have a mode in which it could be used with the light off?

It would be hard to figure the number of hours a pinpointed is on during a hunt but use time could based it on how many hours the metal detector is on while using the pinpointer.

As the Xpointer is a Pulse based probe it will almost certainly have a shorter battery life than say a VLF based probe one,by how much i cannot say but it would be shorter.

If the numbers that you post are the correct amperage draw then the Pro Pointer Battery would last almost six times as long as the one in the XPointer if one uses two batteries that have the same potential.

I get a lot of free lightly used batteries from Church. They change the batteries in the portable microphones every two weeks. The length of service that I get out of one of those batteries may be two weeks or two months. Free is Good.

Good Luck in your Quest for the Perfect Pin Pointer. .

in reality, a 47mA draw from a 1200mAh battery is going to last a long time. You don't leave it on all the time, just when you need to search a hole.
Sort of like the batteries in your TV remote.

I watched a video on Youtube where the guy compared the GPP and the Detectniks, and the Detectniks does draw quite a bit more energy than the GPP. The videographer also mentioned that because of its power sucking abilities, its run time was not good. Something like one day of hunting depending on length of hunt.

I noticed the last time I used my XPointer that it was turning off by itself. The longer the hunt went on, the faster it shut off. So the battery probably needs changing.

I've used it about 6-7 times out. Each time out is about 2 hours. I shut it off each time I sheath it because the sheath has metal rivets in it.

Since I use 9V batteries in all three of my detectors, I buy a large pack of 9V's to save some $$$.

Thanks, good to know!

Good to know that it's good for at least a couple day hunts.
Thanks

So, you guys are leaving the pin pointer on the whole time you hunt? I turn mine on when i need to pinpoint. Seems like if I leave it on its always beeping on something.
I also use rechargeable. Believe it or not, Harbor Freight 9v's are just as good as anybody's. And cheap. I get weeks of hunting with my Tesoros and pin pointers.

AMEN! Leaving a PPr on all the time is... well I'll stop right there.

Dollar Store batteries are better than what what most people think.

And it beeps every 15 seconds to let you know.

I have used mine several times out detecting and most of detecting runs 3-6 hours and I have not changed the battery once and I use it pretty much everytime I dig a hole. sensitivity at level 3 most of the time.

Great! That gives me a good idea of the operating time to expect from the Xpointer. If I was to go with the Xpointer, didn't want to be replacing batteries every time out.

I hunt every Sunday for 8 to 9 hours at a time, weather permitting. My Deteknix X-pointer will last me approximately 11 hours. That is one 8 to 9 hour hunt and a it'll go for 2 or 3 hours more the next Sunday. I turn it on when needed and off when I return it to it's holster during the entire hunt. I also remove the battery between hunts.

gdzag, why do you remove the battery between hunts? Seems to me to be a good way to prematurely break something.

Sorry for the late response... I was usually hunting once a week, on Sunday, because of my work and home stuff. That said... The way I figured it... Keeping the batteries out in-between hunts served two purposes, it eliminates the chance for corrosion and it takes pressure off of the spring steel battery contacts in the pinpointer. For me it works and I'm careful when remove and replace my batteries. I remove the batteries from my detectors after every hunt too.
