Anyone seen the info on this site.Either I am misreading it or my Sovereign is miles better than theirs.:surrender:What do others make of it?I simply cant understand it unless theyre sponsored by XP.While Im here can any wise old heads tell me why I pick up bits of rusty metal miles down that wont register when brought to the surface? Thanks

I quit looking at comparison tests for a lot of reasons that I won't get into.

Rusty iron bits.....
Iron works up a pretty good halo in short order. Also the deeper it is, the more moisture will usually be present to keep growing the halo and making it more responsive. Once disturbed, the halo is broken up and no longer adds to the signal produced by the remaining solid metal.

Perfect explanation Art! You beat me to the punch! I always look for the rust spot in the hole when the target seems to have disappeared. I love the Sovereign and it will take something really special for me to ever switch. Imagine what a better detector would be capable of????? The inventors have a real challenge!!!!!

I cant comment on E-tracs and Explorers but agree that they must be good machines to beat the Sovereign.I have a 14"coil.Is there any great advantage in something bigger?

They cover more ground in less time and they do go deeper, but they are are also harder to pinpoint with and you can expect to dig more trash with the larger coils. I prefer smaller (8" or less) for coin shooting in grassy areas, but at the beach anything goes. If you like to dig deep holes in the sand, use a WOT or S-12 or any large coil. You shouldn't mind digging trash at the beach, that's where the jewelry is! Good Luck!

Bigger coils have advantages in locations where they work beter. They can work worse in places that are not favorable for their use.

Well, those tests are a fairly good indication for comparison between brands and models, but they lack hunting conditions ( iron mask) and the targets did not develop a halo.

Plus the target are typically European relic hunting finds.

But everybody can learn from those tests : for instance, the worst detector of them all is the so highly prised ACE 250.

That means you don't want to hunt for European relics with an US coinshooting detector.

A thing European newbies tend to ignore...

BTW, the XPs -and I do not own any - are really impressive ! But they were developed and designed with relic hunting in mind. So, nobody wants to use them in tot lots or at the beach. Tremendous depth...

Startling though that the Elite compares so poorly with the GT.I havent used both.Is the difference that great or are these figures to be taken with a pinch of salt. Also the Cortes which is about Tesoros best does very poorly.

yes,but the vachero with the 12 x 10 does great,,so just look at the tests in the way it was intended,,,as a test on which machines are best,,,,the best meaning ,,the machines which find the most targets,,remember all the guys who have said,,i went over old worked out sites with my new minelab and hey presto out popped all these coins,,,,,well of course they would ,,as the other machines,,as this test shows, cant SEE certain targets as indicated on the test,,,so dont buy one of the bad tested ones and buy the better one,,or better still , if you dont want to believe it,,do the same test your self,,and see if your machine picks up anything other than what you already find,,ie. look at the worst result for that particular test,,,usually small silver ,,now bury it at the same depth,,and see if your machine can find it,,if it cant,,,dont expect to find that type of target,, at the same depth,,,rgds comcat:ukflag:

A lot depends on the actual operator that did the test too, and thier experience with that particular machine, also how hot the particular machine is

well these guys were very experienced ,,and they used their own machines,so they were obviously used to them,,as i remember the minelabs did very well and the xp,s and the tesoro vachero with their best coil ever,, the 12 x 10 dd,(i have one,it is awesome),,now i happen to know the tesoro cibola and vachero machines work great in the states, as they do in europe,,,so why does garrett not work as well in the same conditions?? this is maybe worth noting,,these are great machines and must be able to find you more,,rgds comcat:ukflag:
