Detectorpro Diver and Fisher 1280X

Hi,

Has anyone had a chance to use both the Fisher 1280X and a Detectorpro Headhunter Diver or Wader model? All are 2.4 kHz units and rumor has it may even be the same circuit. Putting aside the obvious physical differences, is there any discernable difference in actual performance?

I used the 1280X years ago and was considering getting another for freshwater use, but was curious about the Detectorpro units.

I used the 1280x exclusively for freshwater because it was a VLF unit and it chattered a lot in salt water. Had to reduce the sensitivity to stabilize it. Did not like that idea as gold is a heavy metal and sinks deep due to wave action. Bought a P.I. unit for Salt water because I can run it wide open with out interference and the depth is greatly deeper. You will dig a lot of trash but I don't use discrimination when I water hunt anyway. I presently own a Headhunter P.I. and think it's the best one I've ever owned. Just my humble opinion.

Yes the Detector Pro developed from the 1280. Don't know about deep water but wet sand/wading the Pro is deeper for me and I can't really see that fresh water is going to alter the situation. The hardware is now improved to stop the flicking over of the ear cups that could damage the wires in time.

Hi Rick,

Thanks for the feedback. I have a PI for saltwater and so totally agree with you. This would be for freshwater only, and so it is VLF I am interested in. I've used lots of VLF units over the years, but my first was the 1280X and frankly it did as well or better for me as any of the other underwater VLF units I used in later years. Or so it seems... may just be nostalgia!
