Detector question

Dig

Active member
Ok.....As many of you all know, I have a 2nd detector that my friend Jess uses more often then not (so far with no success on gold or any other precious metals). I am thinking of selling my Ace 250 and purchasing another detector for her or guest to use. Can anyone give me an idea what kind of machine would be best for working the wet sand and the beach? I dont think she wants to wade too much but a machine that she could put the coil and part of the shaft in the water might be good. Some people have said get another excalibur, some have said get a minelab explorer, some have said to get a sov gt. No one has mentioned the whites as far as a beach machine. What about the xterra series? Are they any good. In my mind I think the thing to do is buy her a used excal in good shape (but then I think about warranty) but, I also wonder if she would fare better or if it would be nice to have a machine with interchangealbe coils??? Well as usual I would love to hear from all you hard core treasure finders out there? What do your years of experience say is best??? I look forward to your responses...and remember Jess's future ans a detectorist depends on you....LOL

Beach Hunter ID. She will be happy. Machines that you can put the coil and shaft in the water WILL probably get you into trouble. I fried a Whites Spectrum by accidently drowning the box and I had to get my DFX repaired when I lifted the coil and water went up the shaft and into the control box. Its better to have a water machine if your going to play in the water.

Look at the Tereso Tiger Shark it can be used on land as well as in water and its not too expensive another decent detector would be the Detector Pro Diver or Wader if you're not looking to spend alot of money and the DP machines are easy swinging..

Craig is correct, the DP machines are a nice option. A PI might be a choice for you if you are getting really serious, then Jess could use your Excal. When you are solo, you then have a choice of potent weapons....

I have the DetectorPro Head Hunter Wader and love this unit. It's light weight as everything is in the headset. Controls on one side and batteries in the other. No danger of a rouge wave getting the unit wet and shorting out, it isn't going to happen. Everything is water proof and safe down to 6 feet of water. So even if you knocked off the head phones, chances are you aren't over your head in water, just pick 'em up, put 'em on and continue hunting. Can't beat it. :detecting:

The other great thing about this unit that most people don't know is that you can go from water hunting directly to a park and start coin shooting. It's a great all around detector for the money and has become my primary detector.

Happy Hunting!!! :detecting:

The Wader is a great option. Turn on an go...light, water proof and it's hot on silver ( at least mine is). Plus, it's a great land unit too.

Rover - You're right. This unit is very hot on silver. It finds dimes like you wouldn't believe. I've never found so many dimes as I have with this detector.

Mat, I was going to put that in the post too. It does find dimes like crazy. And they have a distinct sound too. I can tell about 80-90% of the time when it's a dime. The only time I get fooled is when it's a corroded zinc thats 3/4 size.

Do you feel the same way about the sound of dimes or is it just me ?

It's a great machine.
