Detector Question......

Elton

New member
If you were going to buy a new detector ..What make and model would you purchase ?
If you have time I would appreciate a little why you would buy that one.......Thanks

Looking at a cz-21 at the moment the reason is I have a couple of excals and they won't hit Canadian clad so I'm going to add a cz-21 or 20. Just started looking into it. Dan

See....I can bet Canada was never even thought of when they designed those Excals.......sucks being them.....they weren't thinking globally were they!.......Ha hahahahahahahahah......lol!.....:canadaflag:.....Ahy!......Hosers!

hey elton, i believe i would buy a tesoro vaquero or tejon. heard a lot of good about them, they seem to have a good cross section of abilities inherent in high priced machines without spending your life savings. from what i can gather, they have the depth of a minelab, the ground balancing capabilities of a nautilus, the pinpoint abilities of a high end bounty hunter, and the smooth balanced sweep of a whites mxt. thats purty hard to beat...on a single 9 volt...hh

That is one I have no answer at this time.
I let go of 5 detectors a few months ago.
I still have an Explorer-2, a few Tesoro's, and a Garrett.
There is no one machine I'm looking at getting - tough to answer at the moment - no answer I guess.

I'm satisfied with what I got.

I think about a Tejon some times, but talk myself out of it when I realize that I don't like to dig that deep very often. I got a 12X10 for that.

I got three of the best hunters around. What would I buy & why? Besides depth:goodnight:

HH,

I will look in to it.....

Correct me if I am wrong..Your exclusive Tesoro right?

Elton,
I have a new Minelab XT70 on the way. I had a XT30 and it was good. I had a XT 50 and it was great. I'm sure the XT70 will be good and great. I chose the 70 because I'm planning on doing a little prospecting and hitting a couple of salt beaches next summer. Also it will be a great coin killer. In addition I have an Ace 250 I made waterproof for fresh water hunting. I have a stock 250 for coin hunting also. I got one heck of a deal from Chuck at Indian Nations Detectors on the Xt70.

I have used many of the different detectors over the years and have several now. If I wanted a fun detector easy to use and good depth the Whites MXT seemed like a good one and kept one for my wife to use. Now on the Garrett the only one I liked was the older GTAx1000 which they no longer make and haven't tried the 1350 yet and will have to some day. For Tesoro I used to be a dealer for them and they are a nice light weight detector and they do good with the Tejon the only one I found that will go deep. The Cibola is another one that is a good detector to start with for many as it is easy to use and a very good clad detector. On Fishers I tried a few with the new F-75 probably the best one I have used and still have it and have a 1236 on its way to be now to try out when weather permits. Minelabs seem to do the best in my area with the Explorers and the Sovereigns for the old coin type of hunting and I have a Sovereign GT and the Explorer SE which seems to do the best for me. I tried a Teknetics T-2 when they came out and I was impressed at the small targets it will see and had decent luck with it too by getting a walking lib half at 13 inches in a well pounded site, didn't ID right, but was different and knew it was deep and good..
I have in my lineup of detectors right now are the Explorer SE, the Sovereign GT which is my all time favorite, the new Fisher F-75 that is good and even better with that new small coil. My wife uses the MXT mostly and does great. I also have a Fisher F-4 I used in a competition hunt last fall and found it to work better than most I ever tried for this. I have a F-2 too just to see if I will keep it for the grand kids, but haven't used it yet and compare it to the Compadre I have for them now.
Another detector that did well for me was the Troy Shadow X5 and wish I would have kept it as it did good for deep coins in with trash.I am waiting to see if Troy will come out with the new one and try that one too.

Yes I am for now.

I've fallen into a groove with the 10kHz uMax models. I can interchange coils. These machines are great hunters.

Yesterday I was hunting with my new buddy Tom. He has an MXT. I was IDing the same on targets as he was. We checked some of each others targets. I didn't have to watch a TID. I made more recoveries faster than he did. I found some jewelry. He only found coins.

I find I'm recovering what others miss. A lot of people bash my machines. That's ok cause my booty pile is steadily growing.

What ever shakes your wiggle:wiggle: That's what I say:)

hi elton, i like the tejon, it has a dual disc, and very sensitive to smaller object and lower conductives targets. i ran bench test and proved that. it has a quick recovery and is great is trashy areas. it has a learning curve sense it doesnt have a screen to tell you what it is. but tesoro have allot of information in their beeps just takes time to learn it. they are very lite, and if you want to, will detect very deep. if you only like TID's then you wont like it, but if your willing to try a beep detector then it is great. the vaquero is also a great choice.
